Nevermind the cost of building, I wonder how much time and maintenance are spent on some of the tanks because some of it is huge and seems impossible to clean. I have a tiny fish tank and it's a drag cleaning it.

I think they told Howie Mandel they have a service that comes out twice a month to clean the tanks. Figure a dollar per gallon a month in maintenance charges, or $500 a month to clean a 500 gallon tank. Fresh water may be cheaper, not sure.
shareBigger tanks are easier to maintain. The water parameters are more consistent with a larger tank than a small one. With a lot of big tanks all you really need besides a water change (that can be automated) is a scraper to scrape the glass once a week and test your water. And clean your sand bed or bottom once and a while, but if you have sand sifting creatures that's another thing that you wouldn't have to worry about.
