The Mother is a disgrace

Not only was the mother at fault for not understanding her daughters problems and conflicts, she is breaking the law and should be in jail.

Instead of embarrassing her daughter like that, she should have talked through it all to find the roots of the problem.

The reason she should be in jail is for leaving a 6 yr old in an apartment regularly without supervision. She then had another? shame..

She didn't leave Jeanne alone, Laure was supposed to be looking after her. But would it be illegal in France if she did leave Jeanne alone? I don't know, do you?

Ah right, that time, now I remember.

How do you know that that was a regular thing? I got the impression that it was only because the father was away at the time and the mother needed someone to help carry the bags. Personally, I don't know what would have been so bad about taking Jeanne along with them, she seemed pretty grown up for a six year old, or maybe that was why the mother felt it would be okay to leave her there for a short time. We don't know how long they were gone, just that it was longer than expected, but we don't know how much longer. And it certainly seemed like Jeanne didn't mind at all, so she wasn't suffering.

Again, is that illegal in France? And if so, would it result in jail time? I'm guessing Social Services would be involved with a mission to re-educate the mother about her responsibilities.

Something you said in your OP ... "her daughters problems and conflicts". What "problems and conflicts"? Are you seeing Laure as a transgender boy? Surely the title of the film would suggest otherwise?

My thought about the mother were that she should have asked Laure if she wanted to confront her new friends herself or with her parental backup. But not drag her to them immediately. Also the option to be dressed like Michael without a forced dress might have made it less difficult.

About the lovely little sister staying at home. Stop being an idiot. You know nothing about the situation, don't know how long they were gone, don't know if a nice neighbour didn't keep an eye out (it looked like a shared building to me)

"don't know how long they were gone..." - indeed, they could just have been collecting the shopping from the car.
