About the ending
Could the director not think up a better ending? Talk about lack of creativity! Everything up to that point was good.

It felt like he was trying to be edgy or artistic or something. I bet he could talk for hours about the meaning of the ending.
shareThe ending was a phoned-in disappointment and any attempt to "artistically" explain it would only set off *beep* detectors.
shareTrue, but its all the rage with independent movies.
It's more credible to say "I didn't want to pigeon hole the ending like any major studio product would, by forcing a resolution on the viewer, I wanted to let them decide for themselves what happened next"
which can easily be substituted for "I couldn't think of a way to end it and ran out of time or money for a decent screen writer"

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.share
100% agree. The ending indeed sucked. As they were walking away with the music swelling i was going: "No, no!" because i knew the credits were about to roll...
no closure about anything, the baby, the job, his marriage. Very, very unrewarding experience, especially since the rest of the movie was fairly enjoyable, so this was really annoying and disappointing.
"the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing"
Agree. It seemed like a total cheesy cop out.
"Love isn't what you say or how you feel, it's what you DO". (The Last Kiss)
W T F!
this ending was ridiculous!
they didn't even bother to write an ending. just - everything works out! don't worry about how!
everything does not work out at all. it was a totally cynical ending. figure out the message of the film.
sheesh
§ Al-Qaeda, Jihad, Great Satan, bomb, explosive, death, Allah
if you figured out the theme of the movie the ending makes sense.
sheesh.

Meh, all movies are not the same. Some have neat endings, some don't. Haven't you ever read a novel or short story with an open ending? It forces you to take the whole narrative as a whole and reflect on it. When you force a narrative to be a steep downward hill towards a big ending, the rest ends up not mattering at all.
This movie wasn't perfect but I found the ending to be in line with the rest of the movie.
I thought it was obvious but here it is..
Pete takes the executive job he was offered by the headhunter who called near the end. He was reluctant to do it because he wanted to follow his passion with music. However, ever since his wife found out about to affair, in order to save the marriage he takes the job. Thus him moving to west coast and being well off with his family.
She of course stays with him and 'forgives' him because the money was right (hence title price check).
Mandy of course got the job she wanted and is in west coast as well, nothing hard there.
Yeah that was my impression too. He moves to the west coast and is forced to take the corporate job (that's why he's gotta work on Sunday at the end). Basically sells out and takes the higher paying job for the sake of his family. The ending was pretty pointless, kinda like this movie.
shareNot that much of a beginning or middle either, but hey: It's great to see Parker Posey in anything.
shareI agree w/you.
The movie kinda seemed to go all over the place and then the ending was just like there.
I did like the ironic plot twist about him ONLY attending Dartmouth & NOT actually graduating from there.
The rest of the movie was pretty hysterically funny. I esp laughed @ the part where PP actually is on the floor having a temper tantrum. LOL
