Friday Night Dinner gets a second series

Wednesday 30th March 2011 @ 2:45pm

The Channel 4 Comedy department have confirmed today that Friday Night Dinner, their new sitcom, will return for a second series next year.

Each episode of the show, which is written and produced by The Inbetweeners and Peep Show script editor Robert Popper, takes place over the course of a Friday night as twenty-something brothers Adam and Jonny Goodman return to their parents' home for a family dinner.

The programme features an impressive acting ensemble, with the cast list featuring Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap. The show has performed well in the ratings, with consolidated viewing data for the series to date indicating that the sitcom is averaging an audience of 2m - above the slot's average.

Robert Popper says: "I am so happy to be making a second series of Friday Night Dinner for Channel 4. I can't wait to get writing in the same small room again for eight lonely months, talking to myself at regular intervals, and eating far too many biscuits."

Series 1 of Friday Night Dinner is still broadcasting, with Episode 5 of 6 this Friday at 10pm. This week's episode features guest star Frances Barber as an enemy of the Goodman family. Series 2 of the show is expected to be broadcast in Spring 2012.

I just discovered this show on BBC America last month and have fallen in love with it. Although some of the haters point out that the scenarios are the same week-to-week, the banter and interaction between the characters is very well written and I find myself howling at this show. Glad to hear there will be more episodes. Of course in America, we won't see them until next year, but it's good to know.

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

If you like this show I was wondering if you've seen black books or spaced? That's where I first saw Tamsin Greig and Mark Heap. I got mine from amazon but I think they are streaming on imdb and hulu.

Excuse me, I think there's been a mistake. I asked for popcorn and a drink, and now I have no money
