Why is it always dark?

well it isn't always, the episode where Grandma married that psychotic factory owner was set in the daytime, as I think 1 other was but I could be wrong.

I love that it's always dark though it sets the mood for the show, don't know if you notice but when they're outside you always hear the cars in the background faintly too as if there were a highway nearby and it was rush hour right around dinner time too of course, if you grew up near a highway you know exactly what I mean.

Doesn't Sabbath start at sunset? The boys always seem to arrive just as dinner is ready. I'm sure a lot of mothers identify.
