Concept inspired by Gilmore Girls?

I hear the words "Friday night dinner" I think Gilmore Girls.

reply

Yes, almost identical shows. It's a wonder Channel 4 bothered when they could have just shown Gilmore Girls re-runs.

reply

Very clever. I'm really not too sure about it being the highest form of intelligence but it's certainly is the lowest form of wit. I never said in any way that the shows were similar except the concept of regular friday night dinners with the folks.

I think it might have something more to do with a Jewish tradition of friday night dinners with the family than Gilmore Girls, to be honest...

reply

It could have been inspired by Grandma's House. The family is Jewish too.

This family is nothing at all like the family in Gilmore Girls. Moreover, there are millions of people in the world who have the tradition of a weekly meal with family; it's such a superficial similarity that suggesting overlap between the two shows makes no sense. (Unless you also think that every show about a family -- from Married With Children to Modern Family -- is somehow inspired by, say, Father Knows Best.)

There are only a limited number of scenarios available, so of course there will be overlap in the basic plot elements or description; what makes a show unique is its characters and the sensibilty of the creator/writers. The creator of this show has talked about drawing on his real-life experiences in writing the show.
