1984 connections?

I know, only one episode in (how many will this season have anyway?), but I wonder if and how it will connect to other seasons. In a way, to make it mysterious again, would be kind of cool if they didn't connect this season to the others in any way until Season 12 or something. Because while it works for them to connect and I enjoy that aspect, it's also not a necessity.
