LOL! That's exactly what I thought. I'd seen him guest star on some things in the UK, I would not have expected him to get top billing on a film Marisa Tomei has been nominated for an oscar three times and won once.

Looks like he does stay pretty busy.

One you're an idiot, two Alexander Siddig was born in Africa and raised in England so how is he an English actor playing and African-American?

If I'm not mistaken his mother is English his father is Sudanese, his mother is or was a theatrical consultant and his uncle on his mother's side is English actor Malcolm McDowell so I would say acting is most likely in his blood so to speak having been around actors most of his life.

I seem to recall on the series "The Wire" three of the main actors were foreigners two were British and one was Irish had roles on that series Idris Elba who is black and Dominic West are both British actors and Aidan Gillen is from Ireland and most people in the U.S. weren't aware these three men all came from the UK.

Most people thought the two white actors Dominic West and Aidan Gillen were natives of Baltimore. I think British actors do a better job playing Americans than Americans playing people with British accents there are exceptions.

English actors who are clearly able to play African-Americans better than African-Americans can themselves.

Exactly what is playing an African American?

I'm black and I know other blacks and we don' all act or talk the same, so how could an actor's portrayal be right, wrong or better?

Their portrayal would have to be based on where the character came from, which is the same as what some white actors do when they play Americans, they try and base it on where the character is suppose to be from.

the same goes for white actors from other countries playing white Americans.

That's why i called you an idiot, because not all blacks act the same in society or on television, that's like the idiots that tell me I don't talk or sound black.

My response to those idiots, I ask them what is a black person suppose to talk or sound like.

Not all white people talk or sound a like, people in Boston don't sound like people from New York.

I'm sure Method Man wouldn't have made as good a Stringer Bell as Idris Elba did, whereas Elba could have probably played an okay Cheese, ergo Elba is the superior ('African-American') actor.

Are you for real? Idris Elba is "NOT" and African American, he's a man who happens to be black and he is "British".

That's an assumption and speculative since Idris Elba didn't play that role and Method Man didn't play the role of Stringer Bell.

One, Method man isn't a trained actor.

Two, Idris Elba is a trained actor.

Three, I and most people with an above average IQ wouldn't expect Method Man to be on par with any trained actor.

You can only go by the role he played many good actors have played a role in one project and not as well in another, and many actors audition for roles and the producers decide they would be better playing another role than the one they auditioned for in the first place.

I don't think Idria Elba is on par with American born and trained actor Denzel Washington and Mr. Washington does have 2 Oscars because he earned them and he's been nominated 6 times, how many Oscars does Idris Elba have now?

The closest Mr. Elba came to winning an Oscar is when he was nominated for being in a Denzel Washington film "American Gangster" for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Yeah, I guess Clarence Williams III, Cuba Gooding Jr., Joe Morton, Ruby Dee, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Malcolm Goodwin and the rest of the African American cast members in "American Gangster" much like the African American cast on "The Wire", they were standing around getting lessons from Mr. Elba on how to play a real African American.

I have no further doubts that you're an idiot, maybe you should just remain silent.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. .

Well duh that was my whole point, black British are better at acting than African Americans are, even at playing African Americans, except for maybe Denzel Washington.

African Americans are generally better at rapping than black British, and at being 'gangsta' with firearms, crack, hoes and so on.

African Americans are better than black British at being Spike Lee.

Well the last time I checked, Method man was playing an African American who just happened to be playing a gangsta who was selling crack.

For the role he was playing he played it well for not being a trained actor, and I don't recall him playing a rapper in "The Wire".

Your whole point shows you're and idiot and a fool just as I first stated.

As I stated I.m black and I'm a scientist, and the last time I check even though I didn't vote for him the current POTUS is half African American and identifies himself as being African American he's doing his job just like the past three Presidents.

The cast of "American Gangsta", and "The Wire" were mainly African Americans playing African Americans in a variety of roles.

On the series "The Wire" there were African Americans who were playing police officers, detectives, politicians, lawyers, parents, coaches, teachers and students.

Which is exactly what African Americans and people of all other races do in real life, a variety of different occupations.

Glenn Turman was also in "The Wire" playing a politician and the last time I checked he's played a diverse range of character just like Mr. Washington and I don't put Idris Elba on par with Mr. Turman, as a matter of fact I don't put idris Elba on par with Clark Johnson, Frankie Faison and Peter Clarke.

Glenn Turman and Peter Clarke will forget more about acting than Idris Elba knows about acting.

I also wouldn't put Idris Elba on par with Joe Morton another actor who has played scientists, lawyers, pastors and a vairety of other roles.

I don't think Mr. Elba be on par with Morgan Freeman either.

I also don't think Idria Elba is on par with Will Smith who has also played a diversity of roles correct me if I'm wrong but Will Smith was nominated for two Oscars, neither role was about a rapper, one was about Muhammad Ali, and the other he played salesman.

I wouldn't put him on par with Cuba Gooding Jr. who won an Oscat for playing a football player.

Looking through Mr. Elba's resume he hasn't played a lot of diverse roles he's played a lot of coppers and soldiers in British productions.

Being a diverse actor makes a great actor playing one type of role well makes an actor a typecast actor and a hack I guess it's appropriate Mr. Elba is from Hackney.

Exactly what is playing an African American again?

Dr. Condoleeza Rice and Susan Rice and my fellow scientist and former colleague Neil deGrasse Tyson and I, don't talk like rappers nor do they or I sell crack.

Please dig your hole deeper, because only a myopic jester would think blacks only act and talk like rappers.

The last time I checked Mike Tyson tried rapping and acting and he was horrible at both of them, but he was a great boxer and I don't recall him selling crack either.

Myopic jester you seem to be in error. Besides "The Wire" and "Luther" what is Mr. Elba really known for playing on film or television?

Any man can make mistakes, but only an idiot persists in his error. .

Thanks fro proving my point even prejudging a race by their geographic location just proves what I thought about you from the beginning you're an idiot, and an myopic jester.

Isn't your town looking for you now? They're no doubt in need of a good laugh.

Idris Elba isn't on par with Lawrence Fishburne

Generally speaking, African-American actors have been made uppity by the history of American slavery and therefore lack the requisite professionalism required on a movie set, unless you can you think of a better explanation.

This is a really awful statement. As knight_sentinel pointed out, not all black americans act the same. And Hollywood rarely writes roles for black characters that aren't dripping with ugly stereotypes and latent racism. Unless you're Will Smith or Denzel Washington you're going to get cast in sucky secondary roles.

Michael Kenneth Williams was just as good if not better than any of the other actors on The Wire yet has not landed a significant role since and is usually cast as thugs or drug dealers.

Here's a guy who bleeds talent and professionalism, but the roles are simply not there for black american actors because many, like you, think of all black americans as lazy needy and talentless meanwhile you've probably paid to see a movie Ryan Reynolds, Shia Labeouf or Channing Tatum have been in (all of them a million times less talented than MKW).

And as talented as a guy like Idris Elba is, he agreed to star in a Tyler Perry movie because who else was hiring him back in 2006-2008 when he played in at least 4 horror films where he was playing "the token black guy" who died in at least three of those movies?

So before you go badmouthing black american actors you might want to take into account Hollywood is not in the business of seeking out or promoting black or brown talent (this includes Hispanic and Asian talent as well).

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.
