Disappointed that Tamera gave up nursing

For celebs that sell a lactation product, it's strange that both twins collectively breastfed for less than a year. I am disappointed that Tamera gave up so easily as soon as she got the talk show. Clearly this is not a sweatshop and there will be plenty of breaks where she can request accommodation and go pump. Finding 15 minutes every three hours should be possible and would allow her to keep her supply. I am sure she could have gotten the accommodation, and it is the law. Heck, people have to take bathtroom breaks. I would respect her stopping after the show started if it really didn't work for her, but she gave up before even trying. She put herself needlessly through that suffering. I was really sad watching her struggle.

The question is how long SHOULD a mother breastfeed. 3 different doctor's have given me 3 different time limits. I don't think anyone knows for sure. I don't think there's one answer for all children.

I thought it was unnecessary and poorly planned.

I know several women who breastfeed at work and use office refrigerators or mini-frigerators to store the milk.

Also, I personally would have asked the producers to provide a room for daycare/personal babysitter. She could also nurse there. This is not unheard of -- although I'm not sure Tamera would have the pull.

Since she and Tamar both had newborns, I don't see why they didn't at least attempt to request on-set arrangements.

I too was thinking that surely she'd get some down time, even if it's for just a few minutes here and there. The show probably would've accomodated her on something like that but who knows.

Ugh...I am soooo sick of women judging other women who decide not to breastfeed or don't breastfeed for what some deem is an appropriate length of time. It's not your place to judge her. It's her body and her child. You do what you want to do with your child and let her do what she wants with her own. i highly doubt she is losing sleep over your disappointment.

It's actually the way she portrayed the problem that I disagree with. Yes, I support breastfeeding but I know it's hard and I think doing it for any length of time is a plus for the child and not everyone has to do it for the full year (that is the recommended time in response to the previous poster). I think it's great that T did it for 6 months.

But she phrased it as her absolutely having to give it up because there was no alternative now that she had a show. I disagree with how she put it, and am pointing out the alternative, especially as a lot of people may not be familiar with breastfeeding. As others have pointed out, it is common for breastfeeding moms to continue breastfeeding once they return to work - that is what breastpumps are for.

So the issue she didn't have to get so upset if she had just tried to get some accommodation. Celebs have even more flexibility in their jobs than us ordinary folks. She could've negotiated break time through her agent even. Even if she cut down breastfeeding during the day, she could've nursed before and after work. There are options for a breastfeeding woman, and I know the struggle having worked and pumped myself.

Also, this isn't just any old person deciding to not breastfeed, it is someone who has put themselves out there as an advocate/expert for breastfeeding, and I expect someone who makes a lactation product to show more devotion to it in order for consumers to take her product seriously.

P.S. I don't think the twins are losing sleep over anyone's comments on IMDB in general.

I understand your points but I would never call Tia or Tamera "breast feeding advocates" not even by the loosest definition and they've never claimed to be experts. I know breast feeding advocates and those are the woman that espouse the virtues of breastfeeding and can recite to you backwards and forwards the countless studies that have been done on the subject and how important it is for women to breastfeed and never miss the opportunity to educate new moms as to why they should choose breastfeeding over bottle feeding. This does not describe Tia or Tamera. They made a lactating product for new moms I realize that but it's pretty much a business opportunity for them. You may as well call them stretch mark advocates since they're now selling stretch mark creams.

I'm not saying they haven't spoken about breast feeding in the past but "advocates" is too strong of a word. Hell, if anything I would say Tia is more of an advocate for veganism and healthy living than anything else.

I think the issue for her wasn't simply about nutrition for her child. I think she's missing the closeness aspect much more. I also think it's interesting how much things have changed over the years. In 80's, I was told to breastfeed for at least 3 months. In the 90's, I was told to breastfeed for at least 6 months. Now, they are telling my daughter to breast feed for at least a year. Is it really that breast milk is the only way for them to get the nutrition they need, or is it more of a case of the food available is so full of crap nowadays that kids need the breastmilk more than they had in the past.

I do think it's sad women judge other women so harshly for not choosing to breastfeed for whatever reason. I remember a lady yelling at me for feeding my youngest formula at 3 months and telling me I was a bad mother. Now, she didn't know I had no choice but to supplement because she didn't know me, but the fact she felt comfortable chastising a complete stranger for their parenting choice speaks volumes about out of control breastfeeding advocates. That was in 1994. It seems to be even worse now.

I don't really know why that's such a big deal if a woman chooses formula over breastfeeding. I could care less what a mother chooses to do and I don't know why someone else feels the need to berate another person for that. It's beyond me. I actually don't know very women who breastfeed. I keep nursery in my church and the majority of parents use formula. My own mother used formula for that matter. I mean I really don't know why some people think it's this horrible thing.

PREACH!! Some women act like your killing your child if you choose not to breast feed. It's ridiculous!

It's her life, her body, and her son. It's none of your business and doesn't effect you personally.
