It's all in the camera
I just saw this and while of course I thought it was terrible, I thought the end sequence was good.
Anyway, I was thinking about it and I know what's wrong with this movie. It's the camera work. Besides when people are running and there's some action the camera is just very dull and passive. You get wide shot of people talking then a close up on someone's face. Followed by another straight on wide shot and then a close up. For a horror movie it's just plain dull, and it does nothing to project a feeling of unease, which is what the Ring world should constantly be showing. It's sad because if they'd filmed this right I think it could've been honestly a decent movie.
