Was that big lady serious??

The scene where Werner is interviewing the hefty woman with the tattoo on her arm, and she is giving him a play by play of the movie, The Exorcist...is she really that stupid that she thought the movie was REALLY filming an actual exorcism, Linda Blair was not acting, and the man portraying the priest, actually died on set?Seriously???

I know that the movie is loosely based on an event that took place in the 1940s. I really didn't think people could be that clueless

I was laughing out loud at that! I have a feeling that Mr. Hertzog was laughing on the inside, too. Maybe he didn't see the movie, but he's intelligent enough to know that it was a Hollywood production. That is the mark of a great interviewer, you just sit back and let those people go!

Was she the woman who thought Linda Blair's head ACTUALLY spun 360 degrees?

What is even more chilling than watching "The Exorcist"...at the time of it's release it was considered to be one of the scariest films ever made, people were literally passing out and vomiting at the movie theaters.....is the fact that in certain areas of the US there are people as illiterate as that heavy set woman. I couldn't believe what I was was hearing!

Mr. Herzog must have nerves of steel....he did not cut off her spewing that nonsense, he did not correct her. Surely, most people with functioning brains, even if they haven't seen "The Exorcist", know it's not a documentary.

Remember, people like that woman are allowed to have babies, to vote, to drive....well, they are allowed to do everything! One thing she might consider doing.....get an education.

I suppose one of the points of this episode was to prove how important an education is....the murderous couple were too young to be parents, both lacked educations, believed in Ouija boards as well as in demonic possession etc.

Even if there is something to the paranormal......the sheer fact that these two young people, as well as the people around them, were uneducated....as well as being drug addled.....certainly were the main reasons they killed the baby.

I've just been rewatching this series, and yeah, the Milam episode is eyebrow-raising. But it wasn't just that woman who was shocking in her beliefs -- several other people in the episode made it clear they believe in demonic possession as well, though it was in the context of making clear they didn't believe the baby who was murdered was actually possessed. And since some of them were cops or lawyers, you couldn't really say they were illiterate.

It doesn't excuse or justify anything, but the mindset this took place in -- the beliefs and ethics and level of understanding -- doesn't seem to have advanced much beyond the 15th Century or so. Maybe that's why the level of incarceration in the States is so shockingly high; the law expects people to behave like intelligent and educated adults, and so many people are simply not that.
