Captain America + Black Widow

I think I much would have preferred if they got together rather than Black Widow and Bruce Banner. Chris Evans & Scarlet Johansson have worked together plenty of times and have amazing chemistry together.. anyone else agree??

Oddly enough, aside from that kiss on the escalator, I always viewed Steve and Natasha's interactions as more platonic and similar to a brother-sister dynamic. This is displayed in how Natasha asks Steve uncomfortable questions about his romantic life and tries to set him up with friends, and in how Steve tends to look out for Natasha in combat and even tries impart little bits of 1940's moral wisdom.

Agreed. Plus that kiss had no passion and felt cold to me. If the OP watched this film they'd see that there's a budding romance between Cap and Agent 13.

Agreed

personally, no. I think they work better as friends/colleagues.

Agent Hill: ...Then aliens invaded New York and were beaten back, by among others, a giant green monster, a costumed hero from the 40's.... and a god.

Agent Ward: I don't think Thor is technically a god.

Hill: Well...you haven't been near his arms.

I see them more as friends.

No, I don't think so. I agree thay have chemistry and I wouldn't mind seeing them play a couple in a different movie, but with this one I'm glad the filmmakers didn't go down that route.

It's in fact one of the things I like most about Winter Soldier: Usually in action movies when there's a male hero and an attractive woman you expect them to be together at the end of it. But to not have that kind of generic love-interest-storyline and purpose for Natasha elevated the quality of the writing of it even more for me. Natasha was a great character in her own right, a female protagnost in an action movie without some kind of love-related motivation. I love that, because you rarely see it!

Then they ruined it with AoU and the weird Natasha/Bruce storyline, which I don't like for a number of reasons, one of which stated above, but that's a different conversation ...

reply

I love their chemistry but their moral compasses are not comparable. I do think Natasha enjoys teasing him. "Still uncomfortable?"

reply

I like that Steve and Nat are friends, it plays off well.
Now her and Banner felt so forced, I just cringed.

For some reason when I first watched Winter Solider, I just thought they would be hot together, not knowing any of their comic book history. So who knows.

I love Scarlett Johansson/Black Widow, it would be cool if they did pair her up.

Of course they don't have too, I'm fine with that too.

If this movie had taken place thirty years ago, a romance between CA and the Russian Black Widow could have bridged the divide between the US and USSR and brought down the Berlin Wall. CA could be credited with winning the Cold War as well as WWII.

I just think Black Widow flirts with anyone who is in close enough proximity to her. It is just part of her training.

reply

They might look good together, but in my view a romance between them wouldn't really add anything. They're better off as close friends.

Now Natasha's pairing with Banner was certainly rushed, and yet... I don't find it as unconvincing as many others do.

You want something corny? You got it!

I like it more than Banner/Romanoff or Steve/Sharon, and I was certainly on board at the end of this movie. Seeing them as just mates in Civil War though, makes me like that version of their friendship more.

They're so different in the way they see and approach things, anyhow, that a relationship between them would be difficult to navigate.
