Criterion release announced

Are you located in the USA? All Criterion titles are intended for English-speaking Region A/Region 1 buyers. Any foreign (i.e. non-English) language films will always be presented by Criterion in their original spoken language with optional English subtitles. Since the film is in Japanese and intended for a Western audience, Criterion provide English subtitles only.

However, as you may know, Japanese Blu-rays are also encoded for Region A (the same region the USA uses) and will very likely feature Japanese subtitles. It may be worth looking to see if there is a Japanese Blu-ray release to confirm, but if there is and you need Japanese subtitles, the Japanese Blu-ray will play on a US Blu-ray player.

There is a Japanese DVD release but it is Region 2 encoded and I do not know if it has Japanese subtitles (product code is TMSS-265).
