This show is great! When does it jump the shark??

Just started this on netflix. It's wonderful. But there's no way this can stay good for years on end. So how much of the good stuff am I in for? I like fair warning.

Spoilers*****

There are LOTS of jump the shark moments in this show. Just depends on what you are willing to tolerate. Long story short when they did frozen. When the show started frozen was not even made yet. They tired their hardest to shoe horn it in.

On the show the snow and charming actors got married and she got knocked up, in order to work her pregnancy into the show they went off the deep end and brought in The wicked witch. Now the actress was good, and I liked it. But I feel like the plot never recovered after this.

Moment 3 when they killed peter pan. They realized their mistake in the season where emma went into the underworld to find hook and ran into pan.

And EVERY TIME they focused on snow/charming and NEGLECTED the other 10 billion characters in the show they set up for no reason, other then, they needed a new ep.

So right now, they are getting rid of the main cast, and basically starting over, this could be yet another jump the shark moment. But we will have to see what happens.

Oh my. That's a bummer. This first season is simply delightful.

The first two seasons are fantastic and I'd even argue that the first half of season 3 is good. It starts to take a little downhill turn when they head into season 3 (they got the rights to Peter Pan and rather than make it a more natural storyline they really pushed to it far too early, killing off season's 2 big bad far too early). Still, the Peter Pan arc of 3a was fun and I enjoyed it.

But then they brought in the Wicked Witch in 3b and it started to go downhill. I agree with the assessment that the downturn REALLY started when they brought in Frozen in season 4. And from there it's just never recovered. Which is a shame because I ADORE the show and those first couple seasons were amazing.

I personally like the first 3 seasons the best. I like the first half of season 4 and didn't mind the "Frozen" story, I actually really enjoyed it. However, the 2nd half (4b) wasn't as great, but the finale of season 4 was.

The term "Jump the Shark" for me means, something really stupid and ridiculous happens. But, everyone has their own opinion of what that is (and if you have more than one "jump the shark" then you're over thinking it). Don't confuse a "bad storyline" with "jump the shark" -because of that, I don't think the show has "Jump the Shark" like I haven't seen Emma having to wrestle a monkey in order to save Henry or something lame and stupid like that, no. Once always sticks to "magic" and Emma being the savior and happy endings for everyone.

However, like I said 4b is a little off and I didn't like much of season 5 with Dark Swan, but mostly - the underworld storyline.

Well I just read the Emma, along with a few other main characters are leaving b/c their contract is up.

How's that for jumping the shark???

I don't think cast changes = jumping the shark.

Horrible already. One season show.

I'm amazed it's still on the air. The first 3 seasons were intriguing but since ABC is owned by Disney it has become a tiresome extension of Disney's commercial agenda instead of a charismatic creation inspired by it.

Well, this show never jumped the shark. But it does get less good as it goes along. The writing was never as tight or clever as the first season. But it's pretty good for what it is, which is basically a fairy tale soap opera. I quite enjoyed all of it right into the Underworld. And then it just sorta fell apart. The wrap up for the Underworld story was very anti-climatic, and the transition into the characters and storyline of season 6 was very sloppy, and the show just has none of its old charm anymore. The makeovers and haircuts aren't helping.

I can honestly say I've been a loyal fan throughout the whole series.

But when I heard that several main casts would NOT be returning for season 7, I was having doubts. However, season 7 ep 1 was pretty good, so we'll see.

Where did Once Upon a Time go wrong?

The ABC drama has wasted so much potential, says Jennifer Still. “Now, having just finished its sixth season, the series bears no resemblance to the vibrant, inspiring, fun show it once was,” she says. “What has emerged in its place is a nonsensical spattering of random storylines which make little sense and have so few stakes that they’re nearly impossible to become invested in or care about at all.”

I'll admit that OUAT isn't as good as it used to be, however I still like it and tune in!

This season has whole new twist, I love the storyline with adult Henry and the little girl (Lucy I think is her name?!?!)
