KT, please stop with your own 'vision'. + maybe we need a DIRECT reboot.

We haven't waited the past 15 years for someone like him to come along and make a series for Mortal Kombat, but to change so many things that don't need changing.

He says he has always been a fan of the series, but deep down I don't think so, he just knows no one has done anything with MK for years, so he thinks he can make some money. Maybe thats not true but why is he changing so much!

I have really disliked both of the series so far, I am ashamed the title is called 'Mortal Kombat' I really am, I hope he stops.

DIRECT REBOOT

I understand it is very hard to make a series with so many characters that we all want a back story for, but maybe that is too much to ask for, is it worth it? It has proven to make things SO complicated.

The original film didn't, only the main cast got it, and we still loved it right?

I know, for example Scorpion has his own story which is cool, but he was SO cool in the original, where the only lines were "Get over here", and "Get down here" but he was bloody awesome! In a way its cooler him being the silent assassin. Maybe thats the way it should be for a reboot?

The original film IS a masterpiece compared to what we have seen in MK Legacy. Just bloody well reboot it that way with the same locations!

Making Scorpion a silent assassin would be horrible, he's probably my favorite character and has the most interesting backstory of them all. I much prefer to give the characters back stories, that was my main problem with the first films, too many characters were just thrown on screen with no explanation as to who they were.

"And it made me wonder, would I do the same? What would I sacrifice to be loved? Not my balls."

It was going well until he made Scorpion and Subzero childhood friends -rolling my eyes- . First of all, Subzero is chinese, the Lin Kuei is well duh...Chinese. Idk if the reboot movie happens theres a 50% chance that it will be good.

I appreciate that they made it a rivalry before a vendetta. But I think having a ninja village on the ground is just a weird idea.

I mean, I don't really believe ninjas had actual clans and inhabited big pagodas in the mountains... but at least those mountains are hard to climb.

Absolutely agree!

It's very cliche at this point and it did not need to be done considering that their original set up in the original games was good.

As you also point out this change makes no sense because Sub-Zero is Chinese and Scorpion is Japanese yet here is Sub-Zero and his clan living like Japanese people.

KT seriously created a plot hole just to shove the cliche "they were one friends but now are enemies" nonsense that we've seen so many times before!

So frustrating!

The canon MK has their ninjas from literally all over the world. You've got a CZECH NINJA, a BOTSWANAN NINJA, it's pretty absurd but whatever, Street Fighter has SPANISH NINJUTSU and there are even weirder things in other games.

While I agree with your premise (i.e. KT's "vision" for MK is not needed and should probably be doing his own thing), you defending the first theatrical MK movie as supposedly getting Scorpion more right than this series is incorrect. You are not familiar with the games. The first movie simply made him and Sub-Zero minions for Shang Tsung which they most certainly were not in the games. This series, even though it has a lot of problems via KT's "vision", portrays the Scorpion character much more accurately according to the games than the first theatrical movie.

He filmed the pilot episode on his own dime. To me, that indicates a high level of fondness for the franchise. While I wasn't thrilled with the notion of it being a pilot for the game, I'm glad that it led to him being able to helm this series. I'm only two episodes in (trying to pace myself) for the new MK Legacy but I see nothing wrong with it thus far.

As for not needing his vision/resenting change:

I'm old enough to have played the first one in the arcades when it was new. Since then, I've:

Bought all the main games + MK vs DC. (Yes, even the stinky MK4)
Watched both movies.
Watched Mortal Kombat Konquest
Read the Malibu comic series (all of them).
Watched one episode of that craptacular cartoon.

I say there is room for his vision of Mortal Kombat. Yes, it changes things but so did the movies and the TV series and the comics. Even the games have retconned a number of things.

To me, I passed my Ahsoka Tano moment long ago when it comes to wanting "one pure canon". There is room for different takes on the canon and, thus far, I'm glad we're getting his vision.

I'm in agreement with pyre. I've done all of that as well, and honestly... whether you give a crap about KT's vision or not... this series feels more like Mortal Kombat than any other incarnation in a medium outside of the games has in a while. I think there's room for vision in the MK franchise... Everything else prior to it has been more along the lines of "Oh, wouldn't this be cool..."

"I've been at the mercy of men just following orders. Never again." - Magneto

I was never sold on Kevin's vision for Mortal Kombat. To me, he either doesn't understand the world of Mortal Kombat (though he claims to be a huge fan) or he just doesn't have faith that the games would work as a movie, so he had to twist and change things to what he thought was more appropriate. Either way, he was a bad fit.

I absolutely HATED his Rebirth pitch. The idea of going the "Dark Knight" route and making everything more realistic, eliminating the fantasy, was appalling to me. His Legacy Web series brought back some of the mysticism but he still changed too much and the quality of the series was just mediocre. I understand that he didn't have a big budget, but it was still bad. I was shocked at how awful Season 2 was. The only things that were improved were the atmosphere and the fighting.

In my opinion, they need to take the original film that Paul W.S. Anderson directed, and add in the bloody gore, as well as focusing more on character development. Those were really the ONLY things missing from that film. Do that, and I truly believe you've got the perfect MK movie.

The good news is though, KT is officially done with Mortal Kombat. He walked away from the movie, and I assume Legacy isn't getting a third season. I don't know if anybody else plans to step in or not, but I'd rather have no MK movie at all than one with KT attached to it.

So glad Kevin Tancharoen is off the reboot team.

He clearly hates Johnny Cage with a passion. In the trailer, he killed him. In the web-series, he made him lose in about 10 seconds to Mileena (after running away) and then 15 seconds to Liu Kang.

What a joke.

Good riddance.
