Anyone Know Why Johnny Cage Was So Quickly Replaced?

Look, I know Matt Mullins is not a good actor at all, not even for a guy who usually just does fighting and stunts in movies, but he was the first Johnny Cage in this series. Why suddenly replace him with a guy who is a decade older than him and has absolutely no fighting experience? Yes I know Van Dien is a clearly better actor but it was so sudden.

I'm not positive- but isn't Legacy II 10 years AFTER the 1st Mortal Kombat tournament? Or did I hear that wrong? Because if so- it makes sense using a different actor if they wanted- people can change a lot in 10 years. Maybe not that much but hey- it's MK.
