Really sweet movie...... little corny but also sweet and funny

Just saw this on Netflix.

THe first 10 minutes are a little zany (the main character is a little over the top) but it actually is really cute and sweet. It's interesting to see the interplay of cultures: French, Jewish, Finnish etc.

The acting is good and while it's a little over the top in terms of the plot, it actually is very endearing.

For a gay movie, there is almost no sex in it so I think it would be appropriate for a wide audience.

I love everything about this movie. Over the top is perfect here, because it never keeps the characters from being real and wonderfully human. I'm in love with the whole Steiner family... especially Ruben. He's the sexiest, sweetest thing I've seen in years.

I started watching it online at Netflix, and as soon as I saw the first few minutes in Finland, with those gorgeous, super-saturated, Candyland colors everywhere, I knew I had to have the DVD. I love that part. And with Devendra Banhart's "Baby" playing in the soundtrack?!!! It takes real genius to come up with a combination like that.

But I'm tired of people trying to make gay movies acceptable to "a wide audience". Straight people have all the movies already; who cares whether they like our movies or not? I sure don't. They can all drown in Hugh Hefner's hot tub for all I care.

A movie like this isn't going to appeal to straight people anyway, whether there's gay sex in it or not. They're too stupid to appreciate it. Straight men are, anyway. Straight women are different, but gay sex wouldn't keep them from enjoying it anyway.
