We gay people and our intolerance issue (spoilers)

Loved the movie for it's fresh and effortless approach to sexuality.

However, when I read some of the mimimi reviews here on IMDb by gay viewers, I couldn't help but wonder how some of us gay people can be so close-minded. Most of them complain that there were more straight sex scenes than gay ones and that they felt "let down".

Why is that? Because it's not your vanilla type of gay movie with the secret love, the big drama and the overall gay ending? Are you guys so close-minded, that you immediately reject this movie just because you had different expectations? Is it that shocking for you to see a straight relationship? That shocking to "accept" the fact that the three of them worked as lovers in the end, because there was a girl in the middle?
To me this movie was about the variety of sexualities and about alternative relationship models, and here you are judging it for not being gay enough, just because the outcome was bi-sexual.

Seriously, it's a strange world we're living in, if a movie like "El sexo de los ángeles" gets 1-star reviews. Not because it shows forms of love and sexuality other than the hetero normative, but because it's not gay enough for some viewers.

Thanks for your input. That's exactly what I meant. Ignorance and discrimination is at work everywhere. Maybe the approach of avoiding labels is a step in the right direction.

Who is close-minded here? Those gay guys u said or the film maker?
They made a movie about kinda "free sex" but not daring enough to show gay sex.
Can we all agree that the straight sex scenes in this movie are unnecessary long?
They could just cut it there. But no they decided to show more details but with gay sex scenes they let u imagine what happened LOL.
I watched some 3some relationship movies before and they were more daring and "fair" than this.

I thought the gay audience was acting a little weird towards this movie. In fact, I don't agree that the straight sex scenes were too long ;). I didn't really care much, to be honest.

If you compare gay VS straight sex scenes, okay, I have to admit that the gay scenes are a bit "subtle". But what I was trying to say with my post, is that to me this movie wasn't about the sex scenes per se. In my opinion it's about the freedom of your own sexuality and it succeeded in portraying that aspect.

If that is what you think the movie's "message" was, then so be it, but let others have their own as well, and not call them "close-minded", eh?

Well, it is pretty "close-minded" to put down a movie for no other reason than the hetero sex scenes are too long and you don't like bisexuals (as one reviewer basically said). Some people ARE bisexual just like some people are strictly gay.

Moreover, as society accepts bisexuality (or "metrosexuality")they're inevitably going to accept homosexuality more and more. Isn't that better than worrying that you're bisexual boyfriend is going to leave you for a female?

But we're talking about movies here. Straight sex scenes make a movie more accessible to the audience that isn't gay, but isn't homophobic either. It's more of an accomplishment to see gay sex scenes in a mainstream movie (not that this is a mainstream movie) than it is to BAN straight sex scenes from the ghetto of "queer cinema". It's like all the lesbians complaining that the sex scenes in "Blue is the Warmest Color" aren't "realistic". But they don't appreciate how much that movie--a movie at heart about a lesbian relationship--has broken into the mainstream. Is it really preferable to have some sexually "pure" movie that no one other than gays or lesbians will ever see?

I agree. I've read a lot of disparaging comments about the sex scenes with Bruno and Carla and lack of sex between Bruno and Rai. This is what I have to say: I believe that the reason we saw Bruno and Carla have sex so much is because that's what their relationship is really ultimately about. Yes, they love each other bug what I got out of these scenes is that sex is the most important part of their relationship. As for Bruno and Rai, Bruno said it himself. "It's more than sexual." Or something along those lines. That is most likely why they didn't focus on their sexual relationship as much. As you all recall, they passionately kissed MANY TIMES. And they were very intimately connected. So maybe if you stop looking at it from a "pro-gay or anti-gay" perspective and start looking at the story and the characters and how they complement each other, maybe you'll understand why what was shown was shown.

Also, I think it was telling that in Bruno and Carla's first sex scene, he was looking at the time and then quickly satisfied her and left. That was important because it showed how excited he was to see Rai. In addition to those issues, Bruno was always busy studying. So that put a strain on their relationship.

I'm as gay as they come (meaning, have never been with a woman) and I really didn't mind the straight sex scenes at all and didn't notice that there were less gay sex scenes. I was just happy that the guys were hoooottt and had great chemistry and had it going on good ;)
