Who did you pity more Rory or the old man
They were both tragic characters
The old man suffered so much loss in his life and Rory was a liar and has to live with what he did forever and will never have peace

The old man, hands down. He lost his daughter! Then on top of all that he loses his manuscript and his marriage.
shareYea the old man wins. But I truly felt bad for Clay (Dennis Quaid) at the end when he is lost in memories of he and his wife. He couldn't even kiss another woman without thinking about the loss of his true love.
shareIf it were true love it would never end. I think she have up on him too quickly.
shareHow would we know of he gave up on him too quickly?? Assuming Rory is Clay, they obviously aren't together, I'll give you that. But it's obviously been YEARS since 'The Window Tears' incident... The movie was never specific on what happened to Rory/Clay an Dora.
Part me of wonders if maybe when she left him, that triggered him to write 'The Words' :o
Exactly, clay is 20 years older than Rory, and they were only separated eight months ago.
What we got here is... failure to communicate! share
I felt worse for the old man, he lost the love of his life, his child and his work (the book). His tragedy is told, but given credit to another man.
Rory is a liar, he chose to hand the manuscript over (after he retyped it) and give it to his publisher as his own work. Totally his fault, he should live with the consequences.
Neither, they weren't remotely like real people. Really poor film making.
