Intentionally a copy of 'Lila, Lila'?

There's a German film starring Daniel Bruhl that was put out a few years ago, and it sounds an awful lot like a comedic version of this. Anyone know if they intentionally based the story on that film?

good question indeed, i was wondering the same thing and was looking for any reference to Lila Lila or Martin Sutor its author. Couldnt find anything, thats strange.

I was wondering the same thing. Of course Lila, Lila is a comedy and The Words is a drama; it is clear from the trailer of The Words that there are many more differences than similarities between the two movies. However, the Jeremy Irons character seems a lot like the old guy in Lila, Lila, plus that leather satchel looks the same! It could be a coincidence, but I wonder.

I zoomed in on the credits in the poster, could not see any reference to other source material:

Cannot find the press kit anywhere online, will be interested to see it.

Here are some relevant IMDb links, at present none of these names have credits for The Words, but check these again in a few months:

Issaac Singer once said, "There are no new stories." Both movies have a shared and familiar plot line. The writers take the story and dress it up differently and give it a different voice. It's good to see the story taken in two directions and to succeed in both. Which version do you enjoy most?

It's also the plot for "Ghostwriter" by Travis Thrasher.

they've said in interviews that they wrote the script 11 years ago...so i doubt it was influenced by a movie from 2009. =)

According to " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Suter " "Lila, Lila" published in 2004 already.

The plot description made me think of the movie "A Murder of Crows." I look forward to seeing "The Words" to find out if there are similarities.

My first thought was "A Murder of Crows." Just if you took the basic idea that of a stolen work and then created a whole other story around that. Will have to check out the others that have been mentioned...

Peace & Blessings!

There's also a book called 'The Histoy of Love' that has the same plot. It appears the book is much better. No surprise there

So does no one get the irony of making a movie about stealing a story and never acknowledging the writer that is, itself, a stolen and unacknowledged plot? Perfect!
