So is chicago like panem?

*I'm not comparing divergent to the hunger games, i'm just asking a question*

so chicago is divided into five factions (like districts in panem) but are the factions like cities in chicago? and if so, is there a town square or something in the middle (like the capitol) where the choosing ceremony and everything is?

reply

No, it's just the five factions. There's no "town square" that I've recalled. I believe in the first book, it's explained that the location of the Choosing Ceremony rotates every year; that year happened to be Abnegation's turn so it was held in one of the big buildings (I forget which) in their corner of town.

Most countries are divided into subparts. I don't know why you say it makes it "like panem"; it makes it like any other country.

Here in the real Chicago. If you are from Chicago people will ask you where you are from and you will usually say your neighborhood like Lincoln park, Lincoln square, Logan sqaure, back of the yards, Austin, ect. There are like 80 neighborhoods in Chicago.

So kinda like every other city in the world then you mean?

"Hey are you from here in Brooklyn?"
"No, I'm from New York City..."

In the trivia section, it says that the story takes place about 150 years after WWIII.

Hunger Games, on the other hand, is set much further into the future. In Katness' time, there has been WWIII, a time of chaos, the formation of Panem, several years of life, and then the uprising that leads to the Hunger Games. Based on I picked out of the books, the story takes place about 1000 years in the future.
