Jessica isn't cut out for any job.

Jeez, what's wrong with her? Baww baww bawww.

She's working there, she's doing a job, she get's paid for it. "Blablabla i have a masters." doesn't seem like it. If she wants to get appreciated, do your effing job, shut your mouth and stop whining. If your boss tells you something to do, do it and he will eventually appreciate you. If you always argue and bicker he won't treat you like you wanna get treated.

No wonder she worked several jobs, she must get fired on a regular basis.

oh facepalm.....

To keep people busy.

You make valid points... however, if a boss hires you as an OFFICE MANAGER... then has you taking out trash... something is off.

This "do what your boss tells you" stuff holds true TO A POINT.

And she IS trying to do her job. However, Ami doesnt act like an owner/business man.

He should, at the very least, be having one meeting/business lunch a week with his office manager.

Business needs to be GENERATED.. not merely relied on by walk ins.

And even though Jess needs to work on her "delivery" of what she wants to say... i woudlnt put up with certian crap either if I payed for 4 years of college and another two for a Master's Degree.

Question:

Then why is she there?

I know many people that have PhDs and can not get hired.

That's all fine, but no office, factory, garage, or any other job compares to working in a tattoo shop. All that common sense you're bringing doesn't apply. Tattoo shops have a definite hierarchy, generally by seniority, but also by job description.

The boss is the top dog, it's not a democracy, you can't talk to him like an equal. Ami's got that tough guy attitude, so he's all about respect. Under him, the tattoo artists are the ones who bring in the money, everyone else is there to support them. Jessica and Robear have "manager" in their titles, but apparently nobody told them they're just counter girls and shop helpers.

Answering phones, setting up appointments... you're a counter girl. If she's also doing the bookkeeping, supply ordering and whatnot, then she's got a little something extra. But still, she's at the bottom of the totem pole and subordinate to the artists.

Keep in mind, most tattoo shops do not have counter girls, helpers or "shop managers." I work in a very busy Chicago shop with over 14 artists and piercers, We have a counter girl only 2 nights a week, but the rest of the time, we do our own setups, teardowns, answer phones, and everyone pushes brooms and takes out the garbage.

Throwing your master's degree around in a shop is just stupid, I know more high school dropouts who do great tattoos than those with BFA's and MFA's. Don't dump all your problems on the boss as soon as he walks in the door, don't say a bad word at all in front of a customer. Jessica just doesn't get it and that's why she'll probably never get that apprenticeship. Know your role, swallow your pride and do your job.

This can be applied to any job - shame most people dont!

I want to fly on a magic carpet, to meet with the king of the Potato People and beg for my freedom.

First and foremost, yes she did agree to do this job. That said, she went out of her way to work in tattoo shops DESPITE her being over-qualified.

Ami may not want another apprentice in his shop, and that's fine, but it's not like she did something out of the ordinary for somebody trying to break into a creative industry. You've gotta have the guts to make the big move once you have a foot in the door.
