A lot riding on this one

I think this movie will finally show the world the talent that adorable Madeline Carroll has. Rob Reiner really likes her, I really like her after watching her in Flipped, which she stole every scene. This age of movie-making has made me very skeptical about the future, but now I have hope because I think Carroll will be a star for years to come. As for the movie, I think it has potential, but it feels strangely familiar to JM Barrie's story and it may suffer in that regard. But I'll see it because I'll see anything with Madeline Carroll.

There's always been a long-standing conflict between the studio and the artists. Right now we're just at a point where the studio has the upper hand.

Anyway, as for this movie goes it does look like it would be interesting, but I'm willing to watch just because of Morgan Freeman. I'll watch anything that guy's involved with.

If Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris got into a fight, Clint Eastwood would probably win.

Great point about the studio. Thanks!

To John-Hitchcock. That's a great tag at the end of your post about Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris. I got a great laugh and feel compelled to offer my own take: when I was teaching at a high school in Korea in 1996 I was in my 50s and pretending I had training in taekwondo. One student asked "could you take Chuck Norris?" I said, "easily. He's a little dwarf and he's OLD!" Could you take Jean-Claude Van Damme? "No way -- he's big, young and tough, and would wipe the floor with me" and I shuddered to contemplate it.

You gotto know how to lie.

As you point out how Madeline Carroll "stole the scenes" in flipped (I agree), Emma Fuhrmann wins that role in this movie. Emma's role as Finn is a key character in this movie. What really stood our for me were the undertones of genuine talent this very young girl has. I predict, without hesitation, that this girl well go on to become a really fine actress.

In this film I think she didn't have such a strong part, it could've been played by any young girl. The character was quite cliched, so the only thing I noticed how "grownup" she got, how nice she looked.

Where I was really stunned by her talent (I haven't seen Flipped yet, that's my plan for tonight) was Swing Vote. I saw that film many times, I enjoyd her sensitive acting alongside Costner's always subtle and perfect one so much. They were heartbreaking together. I was thinking how magnificent this little girl was, how exceptional, and I hoped she'll get worthy roles in her career. Her face was so full of emotions, her eyes were so honest... The film would've been seriously less without her.
