Q+A with the writer of 'RECOIL'

Hey everybody, this is John Sullivan - writer of 'Recoil'. I'm on this board every so often and if anyone has any questions about the movie, the process, the script, or anything - feel free to ask me here and I'll try to do my best to answer back!

Def check out the DVD/Blu-Ray on March 6th!

How much input did you have in the filming process? Did you get to work with Stone Cold and Danny Trejo?

reply

I had input as far as the script went. I made some changes for the director, and for Steve - but they basically shot every word I wrote. Scene for scene, it's my script. Terry did a great job directing. I never met Steve or Danny face-to-face. The movie was shot in Vancouver and I live in LA. It was hard for me to get to the set. Everything was done over the phone, or e-mail. I talk to Steve on Twitter every so often though, and I may be doing something else with him. He's a very nice guy.

reply

thank you for sharing. I write and would love learning about the script writing process.
Did you have any particular actors in mind while writing the script? If I were writing an action movie I would definitely go with Stone Cold and Danny Trejo, due to the fact they can place a really great badass or just a really tough bad guy.

reply

I was wondering what sort of research went into the whole MC aspect of this film. I know people are making a lot of comparisons to SOA, especially with the Danny Trejo connection.

reply

I read a lot of books on OMGs, and watched a few documentaries. I've always been fascinated by that MC culture. I based The Circle loosely on the Mongols. I've actually never watched Sons of Anarchy, but probably should.

reply

Who did the bullet hole effects ? You can clearly see the squibs and wiring on the motel lobby wall sett way before the shootout takes place.

reply

I wasn't really involved with any of the SFX, but when I watch the movie again I will definitely look for that.

JDioon, what successes do you have under your belt? Your words seem like the words of someone who can find no happiness in their own life so they tear down the success of others anonymously on the internet. A self-fulfilled person doesn't take the time to troll the internet spewing garbage just to feel better about themselves.

JDioon, there was absolutely NO NEED to get all ´witty´ in the mean manner you got towards the writer of the movie who´s generously came to this message board to chat with us film fans.
Nobody here was to blame for your upbringing in a rotten brothel somewhere in the boondocks. By the way, say HI to your mom/sister for me.

Serious question:

Who would win in a fight: Stone Cold Steve Austin, the wrestler, or Ryan Varrett as portrayed by Steve Austin, the thespian, in the excellent action opus Recoil (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1839591/)?
