Figured out what??

What did Matthew figure out at the end about Pauline?

reply

He didn't figure out anything about Pauline, he figured out everything about his life. As Pauline told Matthew while rowing in the lake (after dinner): "I don't think you have everything in your life figured out. (...) I think the day we figure out everything about our lives is the day we die."

So, basically, the day Matthew asked Miles to tell Pauline that he "figured it out", was the day he ended his life.

reply

As he told Pauline previously, she is a part of his life that he hasn't figured out yet. He hasn't figured out her role in his life. After he tells his son not to let her leave, run away and not let anything come in their way, we realize her role and so does he. He figured out why he met her.

Please Lilit, what did you mean when you wrote ..."we realize her role and so does he. He figure out why he met her."? Could you explain me these sentences better? I'm Brasilian, my english isn't that good and I couldn't understand very well what did you mean... I just saw this movie right now and I love it, but it was so deep for me. I think I should see it again.. :) thank you!

reply

Yea dude i'm not her but i'm brazilian too so i'll explain what she meant to you, in portuguese. Traduzindo, é basicamente, "nós percebemos o papel dela e o personagem também.
Ele descobre qual foi o propósito/por que ele conheceu ela. Para ficar com o filho dele no final.

Sorry ksp017, only now I've seen your response. In my previous comment I was trying to say - Pauline was meant for Miles. That's her role. Matthew Morgan met his future daughter in law. He didn't live to see it though..

It seems he figured out exactly how many sleeping pills to take to get his suicide right the second time...

Sadly, yes.
