A lot of jokes about homosexuality, a lot of insults *beep* and similar,not translated in the subtitles) and two gay characters. The only two who died in the group. The transvestite is even overkilled because it was a "pain in the ass".

And really, if you can't accept a different cultural norm for homosexuality, it's not much better than not accepting homosexuality. Juan didn't hate any homosexuals. He simply killed zombies.
Again, not defending the attitudes, but it was NOT an agenda of the film. China was a fine character and was well-drawn in the flick. *beep*, there was a damn dance number with him that was delightful, and was served by him being a transvestite.
You seem to be looking for a fight where one doesn't exist. Juan was far from any kind of "audience character." He was a sleazy schmo who ended up standing for something larger than his faults. It's positive.
I´m not saying the film has an agenda, I'm just saying it, maybe unconsciously, has a gay joke every 5 minutes. Why so interested? There are a lot of blacks in Cuba, I couldn´t hear a joke about a black person, or the word n****. "Maricon", *beep* in Spanish, is heard many times.
I don't want homosexuality to be the norm, but if you are so interested in homosexuality as to show 1000 jokes about it, please, say something, just one thing, not degrading.
What they didn't say, but rather showed, had more weight than any gay joke in the film. China was a zombie ass kicking machine and a very likable character. That certainly could not be perceived as degrading to homosexuals.

It's actually common in Latin America to use the word "F*gg*t" as a general insult, instead of just homophobia.
shareIt's not a good thing when homophobia has become so common that people don't even think about it anymore. Of course it's homophobia, or it wouldn't *be* an insult. All of these bad cultural memes need to go, but to do that, everyone needs to be aware and make an effort. Rape jokes, sexual or gender orientation slurs, racism, nationalistic chauvinism and bigotry are all over the place. Every country has these weak spots.

shareIt really was not a homophobic movie at all. The lead character was going to let his friend, who he was never attracted to, give him head because he believed that it was his dying wish. That is not homophobia. A homophobic film would have had Juan push Lazaro off the roof upon that request.
shareDude, you need to know cuban culture to talk about this. Cubans are way more open than other people, and tend to call and accept things by its more casual name without any moral concerns. You are trying to find in a cuban movie moral patterns of a different society.
