Anti-American liberal propaganda, do not watch!

This movie was like a liberal's wet dream. From the moment the zombies first appear, the characters, the government and the TV anchor all blame the United States, stupidly believing the zombies were "dissidents" paid by America to cause chaos.

The United States is blamed several more times as the main characters steal and rob their way through the movie. In fact, these people are so revolting that they see an opportunity to profit off of the zombie apocalypse by starting a zombie removal service. Despite realizing freedom and capitalism are American values, the Mexicans in this movie continue to bash America throughout the film, even as they make "pesos" hand over fist.

Speaking of Mexicans, nowhere was there a warning that this movie was in Mexican, with English subtitles. That's ridiculous. If it's going to be shown in America, to American audiences, then the cast should be Americans or at least the producers should force them to make an overdub version.

In fact, toward the end of the movie the main characters encounter an English-speaking character, but they rudely refuse to speak to him in English. Even the hot girl, one of the lone bright spots in this movie, refuses to speak English. It's insulting.

Sadly, what could have been a good zombie movie was ruined by the director and writers, who just couldn't seem to leave their politics out of it. That's not surprising, considering that 87% of all movies produced by the movie industry have a liberal and/or anti-American slant, according to the Sean Hannity Center for Freedom and Truth.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE!! That is, unless you love blatantly biased liberal movies made by people who hate America.

Your opinion is too dumb to read or even make a coherent reply to. I just disagree and think you are stupid.

You really shouldn't be so dismissive of the op. They clearly took valuable time out of their busy schedule of jerking off to images of G. W. Bush and the Fox "news" channel to share their deep thoughts with us.

Hi Xystophoros, I think you missed the point.

The things you mention are not anti-USA propaganda. They are signs of the very self ironic humor in the movie.

Juan de los muertos is constantly playing with stereotypes. The fact that the media in the movie are constantly blaming the USA is a part of that. They are making fun of the fact that cuban media will always manipulate the stories so things don´t look that bad and, at the same time, always take a chance to make the USA look responsible for anything bad that happens, even when it comes to a zombie plague.

It´s actually quite bold.

Now, a couple of things about your post:

- The movie is placed in Cuba, not Mexico, that´s why it´s an island. If you don´t get that, you probably didn´t get the movie. And here again I refer to the stereotypes they are showing.

- There is no language called mexican; it´s spanish. Spanish is spoken in most of the countries in America. (Which, by the way, is continent with more than 20 countries. The USA is one of them)

- Don´t complain about subtitles. Dubbing actors is not the best watch foreign movies, you take away half of the actors work and it´s never really the same. SUbtitles are used in the whole world to watch movies in enligsh, french, german or what ever language. They work just fine. I don´t see why english speakers can´t read subtitles to watch foreign movies. I hope you don´t have anything against reading.

- "87% of all movies produced by the movie industry have a liberal and/or anti-American slant"
That just paranoid, or very narrow minded.

- "according to the Sean Hannity Center for Freedom and Truth."
Any institution that adresses itself as "owner" of the Truth deserves to be looked upon carefully. It kind of makes sense that they come up with a paranoid / narrow minded quote as the one about the 87% of movies.

. . .

I thought the movie was very enjoyable. I didn´t like everything about it but it was fun.

Maybe you should give it another try. But before that, take a look at a map, locate Cuba and get some info on its history during the last 50 years. You´ll probably get the humor of the movie this time and not take it so personally.

Best regards
Matías

Nice try, but xenophobia (or whatever it's name is) has a world map. There's a red shape in the middle that says "USA", and it's surrounded by the rest of the world- that's the blue part labeled "Not USA".

Besides, a post like yours may motivate xenophobia (or whatever the hell it's name is) to reply, thereby cutting into it's valuable stroke time with images of GWB, Hannity, and O'Reilly, and then it'll be in a worse mood.

I don't know about America, but I think I love you.

Xystophoros did not miss the point, he's a troll trying to get people to argue. Just ignore him and you'll be OK

I'm so ugly...that's ok 'cause so are you.

reply

Troll?? Not in my America pal. (j/k)

reply

Of course a few people replied seriously, even after you clearly pointed it out for them. How scary.

reply

Are you George Bush Jr.? I ask because you're just as stupid as him and you don't understand nothing about cinema.

reply

You're an idiot. It's not anti-American. It's tongue in cheek satire on the opinion the Cuban republic is expected to believe about America. I'm a Cuban-American. Learn about the situation before you open your mouth. You probably think Che Guevara was a swell guy too. Dummy...

reply

They're not Mexicans, you idiot, they're Canadians and they are speaking Italian, which is their national language.

reply

Lol, they didn't "refuse" to speak English, they couldn't. Even Juan could only speak in phrases. And they didn't blame America. In fact, Juan made several references that "just like before" the USA wasn't their real enemy. The government, like several countries do, blamed the USA as a way to exert control. All governments do it, even our own.

Fact: 87.3% of IMDB users belong to the secret society of cynics.

Thank you for giving me insight to what it is like to see and hear things inside the far right bubble.

It is obvious you paid no attention to the movie outside of what you wanted to see.

And thank God liberals make most of the movies. If the conservatives did we would see nothing but hammy Ronald Reagan biopics and retreads of Little House On The Prairie.

Yes, it's SO much better that we get a neverending *beep* stream of clueless garbage like Elysium, Michael Moore aigtprop, and the latest Oliver Stone/Sean Penn/Robert Redford/Steven Soderbergh/George Clooney attempt to rewrite history to suit their needs.

Elysium is a south African film, dude. It has nothing to do with left or right BS US polotics.
