Ending turned the film from good to garbage!

I was actually enjoying this film until its final act in the last 15 minutes or so... Before that point I was thinking possible outcomes such as Amanda's character chasing shadows while her sister did just go and get drunk.. Or she ends up killing someone innocent thinking he was the kidnapper or maybe she was actually a total nutjob, maybe schizo and set the whole thing up herself or what one of the countless red herrings it could possibly be.....

Then we get a random dumb ending which I can only imagine had to go hand in hand with the general trend of American mainstream films being dumb so most if their target audience understand it.

Seriously wtf was up with that ending???? She was right all along we should have listened to our protagonist the whole time!!! Yay she's not bad she was right hoo ray!!!

Sorry this has pissed me if because I was enjoying it till then

That last 20 minutes or so took this film from being a high 6 out of 10 to a 3 out of 10 easy.

Wow. These past three days I've watched a haunted house, the wicked and this.... Seriously I've lost complete faith in modern American films (mainstream ones at least). Think ill just stick to Asian and European horror for a while till I recover!

How exactly is the ending "random" and "dumb"?

The guy kidnapped her and was going to rape her and leave her in a hole to die.

One can understand the ending in this light.

WTF! Did you expect her to pray with him for forgiveness?

Try viewing the movie again. This time, put down your phone and actully WATCH the movie. Maybe this time you'll get it.

'The Wicked' and 'Haunted House'? LMAO! Perhaps you should pick BETTER movies to watch. Try watching 'The Call' or something else....

I can't believe you'd give up so quickly on the American film industry after watching a straight-to-DVD movie (The Wicked) and a Wayans Brothers spoof movie (Haunted House). And we won't count 'Gone', since you obviously missed several points...

I am who I am. Your approval is not needed.

No the OP is right. The ending was quite stupid. So you're telling me that he did all this just to lure her back into the woods? And was he waiting for her to go through all this trouble and get his phone number also?It makes no sense.

No I think it fits every definition of stupid.

Okay? You're entitled to your opinion. At least it's better than other movies we've been given.

Not necessarily. Most likely, all of it was a game that he was playing with her. He suspected that the disappearance of her sister would lead her to believe that it was the same guy who had abducted her (Jill) a year prior. It worked. He wanted nothing to do with the sister. His whole reason for doing what he did was to get Jill.

Plus, he didn't tell her to call him, so it's not like he was sitting around, twiddling his thumbs and waiting for her to call.

She sent the police a map of where to find the hole, the forensic would notice Jim was shot before getting torched. She threw the gun away not too far from the scene, her fingerprints will be on the gun if they find it. There was no evidence that this Jim guy raped her and doubt any that he raped the other girls, so she could be facing murder charges. Better to just keep quiet methinks.

I'm sure the last thing the police would want is to tell the whole story. Other women were killed because they didn't believe Jill, I guess many of the pictures (and bodies in the hole) would match the "missing" posters from the park she carried around in her personal investigation file.

When I saw the envelope I thought she would have left a message like "the press has a copy of this, too". She had her own revenge (she killed her abductor), she flipped the finger to the cops ("hey you know what? You were wrong, let's see how you handle this without looking like the morons you are") and she gave some rest to the victims' families. Being a victim herself I don't think she could have carried on knowing those families didn't have their own closure.

And good luck trying to prosecute her for murder, I don't know how the public opinion (and a jury) would react. She was the victim but the police didn't believe her, they even committed her in a mental institution against her will. Meanwhile, other women were killed, even if she tried to link missing cases in the park to her abduction. And when her sister is abducted, the police is more worried about arresting her, instead or doing their job (they could have easily followed the lead like she did, it all began by asking her neighbor -the old lady- for help).

I think that the ending can be unfulfilling for some. The viewer is not given much information about Jill in the beginning of the movie. All that is known is that Jill returns home, her sister is not there, she takes a folder to the police station, and the police dismiss her as being a liar.

Also, there is Jim - a serial killer that has successfully abducted several females, has a hole in the woods that no one is able to find, and for some reason became obsessed with Jill. Jim is so obsessed with Jill that he stalks her - makes a plan to make it appear as though Molly has been abducted knowing that Jill will go looking for her sister.

What would have happened to Jim's plan if Molly would have been able to break free from underneath the house - let's say at the same time Jill was at the hardware store, or, at her friend's house?

Perhaps if the movie started with Jill being abducted - and viewers were able to become invested in Jill (rooting for her as she escaped the hole for example) - the ending would have been better.

I found the ending totally unfulfilling in comparison to the tension and suspense building throughout the rest of the film. Total letdown and a bit nonsensical.

She killed the killer. It makes perfect sense. You're saying if it were more convoluted it would make more sense, which makes no sense.

The only real problem with the movie ending to me is that she sent the photo to the police of herself bound which connects her to the killer. If she wanted to conceal her crime of murdering the guy, why would she send the photo?

reply

Well first of all there's no proof that she murdered him. Maybe they'd find him dead if she sent the pictures in immediately but that still wouldn't connect her DIRECTLY to his murder.
She said she didn't meet anyone. And there's no proof that she did.
I mean so many things could be said about this.
Maybe she could claim she continued to scour the woods and found the pictures
Maybe she could say she didn't send the pictures (I looked and couldn't tell if her name and address were on the envelope)
Maybe she wasn't trying to conceal murdering him. Maybe it was just an immediate instinct because she wasted to say *beep* you very much.
Maybe she waited to send them in.
So many reasons that sending in the images could have still worked.

reply

Not only that, but her fingerprints would be on the photos.

ACTUALLY I full on disagree.
Within twenty minutes of this movie you knew what it was. A psychological thriller. We spend the entire time asking ourselves if she's crazy or not, and I think most of us or a lot of us thought she was going to be crazy. In fact that's become the new recent trend, to hit the audience with a plot twist.
Everything I expected, I was wrong about-which I loved because I'm usually dead on in predicting movies.
I thought she was going to be crazy. I also thought that if she wasn't crazy that the new cop was the killer. I did not see her sister ever being under her house or that all these things she was finding, clues wise, were a set up for her to come to him. I thought they did a very good non obvious job in evading the truth and surprising the audience.
I also like how when she finally did confront him there was no "oh i'm hurt what if I can't make it moment" they always swing on helpless girls. She pretty much had none of his *beep* and killed him. Which makes sense after the self defense and everything. It was nice to see a female who wouldn't allow herself to be a victim. I also liked that there was no mercy and she killed him.
I thought telling the police that it was all in her head was great for a few reasons. 1. she clearly told her sister the truth when she whispered it to her. So at least her sister felt safe. 2. it kept the movie from getting too long and lead to a smooth closing. 3. it was a *beep* you to a group of people that ignored her and looked down on her the whole time. and then to top it all off when I was feeling a bit unsatisfied because I wanted the cops to know how *beep* wrong and stupid they were she sent them another *beep* you message by mailing in pictures that included herself.
everything in my opinion was great because it kept me guessing, wasn't predictable yet still was satisfying.
