Altenative Ending (Spoiler warning)

I was a bit disappointed with the ending. The whole movie I thought that Emanuel actually died when she was born, instead of the mother. That the mother couldn't deal with the loss and saw the doll as Emanuel, that the father couldn't deal with the mother's psychological issues but still wanted her close as his neighbor. IMO that would've been a more interesting ending.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I like the way it ended, but yours would have been good too.

That would have been a far better ending! I was disappointed with the actual ending myself.

I was disappointed also ... I felt that I just wasted 2 hours .

"A man that wouldn't cheat for a poke don't want one bad enough".

I guess I don't get why the ending was so disappointing. Emanuel helped Linda start the actual process of grieving for her dead child instead of leaving her in the psychotic break state she was in, and I think at the same time it might have helped Emanuel deal with her own mother's death a little better. A really wonderful way to end the film.

Your explanation is far better than the alternate ending proposed. It brings the whole story though a complete circle. or rather separate cycles. I found it far superior to the current trend of "I see dead people."

reply

Yeah, I'm glad we didn't get one of those stupid twist endings. The ending as it is just feels right with the overall tone of the movie.

I adored the ending and the profound, entwined emotional catharsis experienced by both women.

If Emanuel was really dead and her father kept her crazy mother next door, it would have been the worst lifetime movie of the week, ever.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

I thought the same thing. Well sort of. I very quickly assumed the same that Emanuel had died and the mother lived, but I figured it was all some sort of purgatory she was in to realize and come to the conclusion of her own death and be able to move on. Much like the movie **Spoiler Alert*** Stay.

I thought the ending was perfect. There was no trick ending "hey look I'm really dead the whole movie". I hate that. those have become so ordinary and predictable in films if that happened THAT would've disappointed me. I thought this ending in the real world was beautiful and perfect. We find out Emanuel is a hero and a beautiful person. I think the ending is what made the film special.

That's a very bad idea , it is not related to the point of the movie !
