Bad Accents!

I knew from the first moments of the film that the actress playing Emanuel was faking a so-called American accent. Her accent was very artificial, very stilted - over-articulation, formality, etc. I didn't necessarily know that she was British, but I knew she was masking something. Alfred Molina did slightly better, but you could also hear his British accent come out from time to time (as is quite typical for him). The only one who was somewhat successful at achieving an American accent was Frances O'Connor. Aside from Jessica Biel and Jimmi Simpson (a very minor character who was not at all important to the story), every one of the actors was either British or Australian. I've said it before and I'll say it again - why set the movie in America if you cannot find appropriate American actors, or actors who can approximate an American accent? Why not set it elsewhere? Bad accents pull you out of the story immediately and constantly distract from the viewing experience.
