Canceled?! Try again!

So Eternal Law came - and went?! Six good episodes mostly really gripping - and then canceled!?

The ten-star reviewers here on IMDB seem to me to have it right. There are a lot of five star reviews on Amazon too for the DVD.

Looking for a reason beyond the "low ratings" excuse given out, it seems the real problem was that not all the regions of commercial telly picked it up or promoted it. In several places it was remarked that the BBC would have kept it going and promoted it much better.

And it seemingly could have been better sold abroad - the predecessor series Life On Mars and Ashes to Ashes were hardly seen in the US for example though I caught some episodes because a friend in Manchester sent me a tip.

Though angel series have never been my thing, the mysteries and court proceedings had more twists and turns than a corkscrew, and this could have gone over well in the sunday night PBS Mystery series in the US where we get Lewis and Wallander and so on.

Initially the angels concept seemed to need some mulling. They seemed rather toothless tigers and brand-new on Earth rather than years or aeons old so what was their point? And initially how those wings kept coming and going was distracting - too much for me. But I got to like a LOT the often funny friction between the four.

And Hattie Morahan who I've briefly met seemed exceptionally well cast opposite Samuel West, the lawyer/lover part of Hannah played to her strengths, the episodes I watched really did have shockers, and the British courtroom scenes were refreshingly different. Loved those wigs (though whats with the glass cage?) and Hattie in one looked quite okay.
