Took me right out of the movie

Every time Beverly spoke, her English accent sounded out of place in New York. Her family was American, they all had American accents, and she was (presumably) born and raised in America. Couldn't the director have had her coached to fake a passable American accent?

Looked over the board for a mention of this from someone else, and didn't see any. Come on, I can't have been the only one to have noticed it!

In the movie she clearly says she was born in London. Maybe you should rewatch it, or at least the scene where they are seated for tea. Even if her parents were American, if she spent a large chunk of her childhood in London, she'd have an accent even if her father did not.

And while we're on the subject of accents, why did Peter have a foreign accent? I realize he was born overseas, but he was brought to America before he ever started speaking. No reason that Peter should have a foreign accent.

When people came to this country they did not speak "American" or even English so they settled in neighborhoods inhabited by people who spoke the same language, ie Irish, Scottish, Italian etc. Children spoke the language of their parents and only mixed with others at work. And both child and adult immigrants worked. Public schools were a long way off. So Peter could easily pick up an accent anywhere in NYC growing up there.
