Willa 2014

How was she still alive? Beverly died about a hundred years before and Willa was around 8. I'm confused.

reply

I tonight the same thing!

This was one of the glaring inaccuracies of the film. Many people have already commented about this on previous threads.

Fair enough she may be still alive but actively running a company, meeting clients etc.? Come on!

As much as I really liked that scene with Colin Farrell facing the window and turning around to see Willa, I was hoping that it would be Willas daughter or something (granted that would not have as much emotional impact but again, a 108 yr old!)

In Denmark one of the biggest family companies was run by a man aged 98 before passing away.
Not saying it is a common thing, but can happen.

LOL I just watched this and I was like "she has to be at least 106!"

The grave is no bar to my call.

That's one of the problems with taking a book from 30 years ago and updating it to the present. To make it work, they would have had to set the first part in the 1940s.

reply

In the same world that angel horses fly, Willa can be 106.

reply

people have been known to live to be that old.
Not necessarily running a paper tho.

She did say they would not meet again. I had the feeling that she was kept alive supernaturally so that she could meet Peter again and remind him who he was and she would realize the miracle.

And that the miracle was not her sister.

This is kind of the same thinking I had on Willa still being alive and quite vibrant for such an advanced age, over 100.

Do you need a bowman!?

reply

I have not read the book but someone who has stated the modern day scenes were supposed to be set in the 80's instead of 2014 which would make a lot more sense as Willa would only be in her 70's if they had set the modern day scenes during that time period.

For some reason they chose to set the modern day scenes in 2014 which made the time span to be 100 years and Willa would have to be 100+ years old.

reply

I can get her being alive but walking around like she was at 108?

reply

Yes, this was a big mistake to move the modern day to today, but keep the past in the 1910s. I don't see a real reason, why the past scenes even had to stay in the 1910s. Ellis Island was only closed after WW1, it wouldn't be so hard to explain away that his parents fled the Great War (or just before in early 1914). Then the movie could have been set in the 30s or even the pre-war time. I can't remember any scene which wouldnt work out also in the 30s.
