question

When Peter comes to the present, he enters house, looks into a closet, and holds a red purse or something. Who's house is that? How is Peter still alive? How is he able to be around in 2014, without aging like Little Vera did?

reply

Facepalm.

Just saw it for the first time, but I will try to help. First, he does not "come to the present." He lives through all of the intervening years, never aging, not knowing who he is, where he came from, who he loved or even THAT he loved. So that house or apartment or whatever--perhaps still the attic of Grand Central where he had been hiding out in 1915?--has been where his belongings have been hidden all along. The red thing, I believe, is just a red cloth in which he wrapped the flower or leaf from Beverly's casket. Peter is still alive because Beverly's miracle was to keep him alive with her love--he could not die. (However, I think his amnesia allowed him to live under the radar of Pearly's notice: as soon as he remembered his name and wrote it on the mirror or window, Pearly instantly became aware of Peter again.) It is a strange movie and I lost interest in the beginning twice before going all the way through, but I like fantasy enough, so I liked it overall. Anyway, I digress. Hope that helps.
