Rev. Ron reviews 'The Fifth Estate'

For the most part, I enjoyed The Fifth Estate. From a technical standpoint, I thought the film was put together incredibly well. The visuals look good, the music compliments what you are seeing and the editing is flashy and fast. But nothing compares to just how stellar the performances were from just about everyone in the freakin’ movie. Everyone from the supporting players to the principle cast, each actor is just tremendous. Daniel Brühl and Benedict Cumberbatch are each unbelievable alone but are truly spectacular together when they share scenes and nearly made the entire film all by themselves. However, I couldn’t help but feel the movie just didn’t feel like it wanted to get up and get moving. It clearly wanted to be a thriller but the story just lacked any real tension, drama or suspense. The controversy that surrounds Julian Assange and WikiLeaks is interesting and engaging all by itself and it seems the film should have all the potential to be a thrilling film but it just felt like it didn’t want to find the motivation to utilize the potential.
