Blackwell's plan was idiotic.

Okay, so as far as I can remember, he planned to kill all witches except for those of his blood, including, Diana, Cassie and his numerous other bastards, all for the purpose of strengthening the witch race. Suppose he'd succeeded, though. The only witches left would be those related to him. Then what? They have to breed with someone in order to perpetuate the witch race. Who are his kids going to breed with? Each other? Regular folks? Wouldn't that weaken the race? What he should have done was had even more children with random witches. No need for mass murder and a whole lot practical. In a few generations, almost all witches would be descended from him, then.

Evil doesn't have to be logical. Look at Hitler, haha.

True. I just thought Blackwell (or the writers) would be smarter than that.

reply

I agree Blackwell's plan was dumb.

It seemed to me Blackwell wanted world domination. It didn't seem to matter what happened to future generations as long as he and his children could remake the world as he wanted it. Mostly it seemed he wanted to destroy all the other witches in the world so that they couldn't get in his way.
Also, I don't think a non witch 'breeding' with a witch weakens the bloody line. A few of the circle members must have had non magic parents and they all seemed as powerful as each other.

Why do people so frequently get told to read the book on a movie database?

reply

Ah, when you put it like that, it's more understandable. I was assuming that he was doing all that for what he saw to be for the greater good for witches, not that he was being selfish. Still, this only begs the question of what his eventual goal was. Suppose he managed to kill all witches besides those related to him. Then what?

reply

Then he goes broke from all the child support he has to pay.

Well, all the dead parents were magical, otherwise they wouldn't have been on the boat. That leaves Cassie's mother, Adam's father, Diana's father, Faye's mother, Melissa's father.
The first four all had magic at some point. The only one whose magical status we don't know would be Melissa's father. And given her little screentime to add to her importance to the circle, it can be a fair assumption that she is not as powerful as the others. Or, at least, that's what the writer's laziness can lead to.
