Should I watch this, or just read The Count of Monte Cristo again?

I am a huge fan of the book, read it several times and watched all the adaptations I could find, the best being the French mini series despite Depardieu looking nothing like the Dantes in my head!

I was wondering if someone who has read the book and watched Revenge, if it really is comparable and give me the same enjoyment of watching somebody delicately destroy the very essence of their enemies.

Do the people making this have a true affection for Monte Cristo, or have they just taken a couple of plot points and removed the complexity?

Or should I just read the book again? (or just watch The Punisher for kicks!!)

Well, I watched all 4 seasons and of course read The Count of Monte Christo (who hasn't?!). To be completely honest I think you might enjoy the first season very much because each episode is dedicated to destroy a guilty person. Unfortunately after the first season the tone changed a bit and it becomes more of a drama. Many people believed that 4 seasons were a bit too much. I think that the writers just complicated the story too much but it all in all it was still a good show. The cast was great. The only way you could know if it's worth your time is simply start watching. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the first season if not more. Good luck and let me know if you like it or not. Would love to hear your opinion! :)

It always was a soap opera and yes season 2 gets kinda bad but it totally redeems itself from the season 2 finale onwards imo

Thanks, I think I will give Season 1 a go then and let you know

Actually, I don't know anyone who has read Monte Cristo except for my brother who I badgered for years to do so and it still took him a couple of attempts to get past the first few chapters :)

There's an companion book to Revenge that you might like to check out. It's called, 'Best Served Cold: The unofficial companion to Revenge'. The author does a lot of analysis in comparing The Count of Monte Cristo to Revenge in that book. It covers season 1.

I'm real when it's useful.
