Why weren't Emily and Daniel endgame?

They were about the best pairing on the entire show yet we had to suffer to see Emily get paired with Aiden and the end up in the end with poor man Jack. Sort of them like dropping the ball of Nolan's relationship with Justin Hartley's character and not giving Margaux enough to do.

Did you miss the entire point of the show somehow? Emily conned Daniel. From the very beginning of the show, it was obvious she and Jack were the classic star-crossed lovers. And what would she need a rich man for, anyway (referring to your "poor man" comment)? She already had millions of her own. All I can think is you just weren't paying attention... for 4 entire seasons.

Um... It was Emily and Jack from the beginning. It made that very clear. Kind of got muddled with Aiden, but Daniel was just a pawn.

They were never going to be endgame. She only hooked up with him to get close to the Graysons. Thank God TPTB didn't pull a retcon.

Clark's destiny = Superman, LL &LL.

That is exactly how I saw it too and I am surprised there were so many people who thought it was going to be endgame 'cause I always knew they wouldn't end up together.

I'm actually with you on this one, OP because of their amazing chemistry. Every viewer IMO knew she was going to end up with Jack but I could never get into it because I thought they had zero chemistry.

I wish the show would have kept with the theme of Daniel not really being like his parents at all like they had in the beginning. It would have made Emily's decision harder to rip the family apart and made it more complicated.

For those that said it was all a lie might be forgetting the fact that Emily told Daniel that it wasn't all a lie.

You know these two actors have amazing chemistry when you spend almost half the show hating Daniel and then him and Emily have that bar scene and elevator scene and you're like wait... why am I rooting for this again?! It probably had something to do with them being together in real life.

^ This!

In the very beginning (first few episodes) I thought it was the cutest thing that Jack had remained 'in love' with her through all these years, and that they were finally in each other's life again...

However, as I wacthed her relationship with Daniel unravel (or should I say 'ravel') I just kept rooting for them. It was clear she developed true feelings for him and she was the only love of his life.

Jack was too 'slow' and when they finally got together the whole thing was extremely 'blah'. Anti-climatic, to say the least.

Aiden was a joke. Idiotic character. It's not even worth making any arguments about him.

Because the actor playing Daniel quit the show regardless of if the show was renewed so was never sticking around for the finale.

That "poor man" is probably the most tragic character, he lost his dad, his brother, his wife, and his dog, yet never turned into the same vindictive, arrogant, spoiled, pathetic little man Daniel was. Let's not leave out the fact that he did shoot her and is the reason she can't have kids, or did you miss that? Why would anyone in their right mind want them to end up together? Sorry, but Emily and Jack were always endgame.

Emily despised everything Daniel came from & was. Though she felt pity for him.

I just finished watching it from the beginning for the first time, and would've been really disappointed if she'd ended up with anyone but Jack! It was clear from the moment Sammy jumped on her in the park and they he met her as Emily that they were meant to be. Classic "star crossed lovers", as others mentioned.

Agreed OP. As much as Emily and Jack may have been the producers' "endgame" in stringing out their star-crossed romance, I think what they didn't take into consideration was how much chemistry Emily/Daniel's characters would have and how many hidden parallels there were between her falling for him and her father falling for Victoria.

While Daniel's character wavered many a time (and the foundation of their relationship eventually tore it apart) there were always solid feelings between them even up until the end, which I'm glad they allowed Emily to admit to, both to Daniel and herself. Her feelings for Jack had easily grown lukewarm by that point and IMO felt forced. What kind of unconditional love gets put on the back burner EVERY time another guy comes along? (Aiden, Ben, etc.) But as with most shows, they had to go down the avenue they had already set in motion from the pilot. I just think by the time it happened the excitement had truly fizzled out. Would have been more interesting if they entertained a relationship with them in S2 or S3, not the very final episode of S4

Anyway, all this to say I 100% agree Emily and Daniel were the best pairing and I think the answer is just that it was not expected to have so much spark as it did. But if you're interested in an alternate version of events wherein these lovers do get their chance, please check out my fanfic at the link below-- think you may find it satisfying on that end :)
