Ending

Saw this last night and thought it was really good (to a point). But the ending was just a cop out for me. I am sure it will be decisive but that type of ending is over done for my liking now

I just saw this at TIFF and everyone booed. If you've never been to TIFF, this is a festival where even the worst films imaginable get applause. Total cop out.

If you listened to the Q&A, I feel like he gave a bit of insight and after seeing the film twice, it wasn't too hard for me to put together what I believe happened. I didn't boo, and neither did anyone else in the two screenings I went to. Films don't always need to be so deliberate, and in this case I really enjoyed the director leaving it open-ended.

I really do have love to give, I just don't know where to put it

I liked the ending...

I am not sure if you could call it over done - what films ended in a similar way?

It annoyed the hell out of me, I don't care how the makers justified it. Is it part of some experimental modernist drama technique to let the audience finish the story for the writer? Isn't that what they are paid for?

it needed a proper ending! die not die! but i booed and i was in bed watching a downloaded version! great film though

For me, when that kind of open ended ending is used, it has to be in a clever way, like lock stock or the sopranos. This was poor Not clever. It was badly done and it just didn't really work for this film imo. Everyone's like ooh it's clever and ballsy and you've got to use your imagination, if you don't like that ending then you must be thick and have no imagination. Wrong. It's a kop out because the screen writer couldn't think of an original ending he has no ending, well guess what? That's just as unoriginal these days. There are really only a couple or three outcomes at that point in the film, so, because these types of films have been done to death and so therefore so have the obvious endings, they end it. *beep*

And I didn't actually think the film was that great either. It was ok. Stephen graham amazing as always but thought his character lacked a bit of depth and logic. Some of the things he did didn't really make sense. Why the hell would he pull out in that fashion in front of the Albanians, he's got Michael on tape from the moment they met back up. I know he didn't want to admit to anything on tape, but that didn't ring true for me. They could have just had him argue with them in some believable way and then they kill him and then Michael gets the phone that way. And why would he tape the conversation with Taylor, he wouldn't want that on tape would he? Weird. Come on give it to me, I know someone's dying to

Beethoven had his critics too, Keithy, see if you can name three of them

true but.......a cheaply or expensive done one man gunning down every thug guy ritchie style would have been fitting! or even a quiet bullet to the head for all the innocents in the flat! but to leave this film like it did wasnt cool or original like you said it was amateurish...totally agree, shame really! some funny coke scenes though! weve all had those silly good days

reply

Bottomline line this movie had potential but sucked because they didn't have a big enough budget to finish the movie

reply

What can happen?! He's gonna go in. Theres no way he can survive against the three guys I mean put it together

reply

I didnt much like the ending either but oh well... I think what they were saying is that he's had enough of all the crap in his life and he's pretty much ready to put an end to it all.. maybe he dies in that room, my feeling is that maybe he kills himself someway somehow.

still a really cool film overall, despite the ending being a bit weak.

Great film and ending. Thought it shoukd have been like THe Long Good Friday though. Whats Tiff,, Toronto?

reply

Personally, I think he's *beep* the bed.

reply

By the end of the film he's completely *beep* up due to his cocaine dependency. So the last thing we see him do is stuff more of the crap up his nose before doing what he's going to do. But what exactly IS he going to do once his judgement has again been impaired. I think that is the point the writer/director is trying to convey.

I think these kind of endings need a name, because it's part of a cinematic narrative style. I would call it "the middle finger ending", because that's what I innitially feel seeing showed into my face, as the credits start rolling.

That said, I liked the movie quiet a lot, including the ending. Can't believe how much Ferdinando has changed, in comparison to how he looked in "Tony".
