The Most selfish act from Hannah was

To actually do that, and make her mother and father find her that way in the bath tub.... terrible just terrible it's a selfish act to do. and her parents didn't deserve that at all. The only bad thing they did to her was be pissed off at losing that cash (as I would be too )

That's why they put that scene in and made her parents a big part of the show. People who are suicidal, especially teenagers, they don't always think it through, what happens after. She believed she was a burden to her parents and their lives would be better if she were gone. They were fairly quick to get over her losing the money, especially her dad. They had money problems with the store, but they were handling it. All that was nothing compared to losing their only child and not knowing why.

It was terrible, but she wasn't in her right mind... this happened over a long series of events... it wasn't something she immediately jumped to.

reply

Actually that is the problem right there, she did just 'jump to it' nowhere in any other episode during the flash backs did she have any suicidal thoughts at all. it wasn't tell the 'councilor' didn't call her back when she waited that made her jump to that last straw

I had a friend that committed suicide he put a note on the door for his wife NOT TO open the door and call 000 (it's emergency number here in Australia) he sent her off shopping. she panicked and still opened the door and found him, he even then with the state of mind was thinking about the people he left behind.

I think they showed her undergoing a general pattern of withdrawal, hopelessness and depression. Not everyone openly declares their intention to commit suicide. I lived with someone who didn't kill herself but was clinically depressed... she would just sleep a lot and neglect basic tasks and even hygiene when she felt terrible. Maybe it wasn't textbook or perfect, but it seemed believable enough to me.

I once saw this cool blog about how to off yourself the right way. And this is what the guy was saying: don't traumatize some innocent bus driver by jumping in front of his vehicle, or some bystander by jumping off a building right in front of them, or your family by blowing your brains and having them find you that way.

reply

People who say that know nothing about suicide and what drives people to do it.

reply

She should have gotten naked in the bathtub, it would have made it 10x more horrifying and disturbing, especially for her parents to find her that way...

reply

Almost like Dexter season six. Jonah found his sister that way.

reply

I hated that scene. In the book, she overdoses on pills and the circumstances of her suicide are kept vague.

reply

She should have said I love you back when she left the store. Her mom said it to her, I'm sure that is comforting to her
