Characters static

I wonder if I am the only one who thought that teh characters in this movie do not really develope over time. Trishna goes through unimaginable things, but remains the same charming girl until the end. No traces of experience on her face or body. She smiles the same, she talks the same... I think that's why all these questions from the audience:"Why she did what she did?" We see a girl being abused, but we don't really see how it all affects her, what toll it takes.

The film is based on the novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. At the end of the novel the girl kills her lover then herself. There is no other way for the film to end if it is to stay true to its source.

Sorry, this is not at all what I was talking about. I was talking about the lack of the psychological development of the character during the course of the film.
