If Tarantino had some degree of humility...

...this is the kind of movie he'd make. Instead of a hodgepodge of self-indulgent allusions and look-at-me grandstanding...this is a really interesting and likable story with strange, unpredictable characters. Not as overly serious as Stone's Savages.

Honestly, I enjoyed this far more than Django Unchained or that jarring mess Inglorious Basterds.

Yeah well those "hodgepodge of self-indulgent allusions and look-at-me grandstanding" you're talking about has made QT a multi-millionaire, won him 2 Oscars and made him one of the most popular filmmakers in the world.

One of the best thread titles I've ever seen.

If anyone has seen one of QT's last 5 or 6 movies, it's clear the man doesn't have a trace of humility, access to an edit button or anyone in his inner circle that has the courage to offer constructive criticism.

Just look at Django Unchained - overblown, self indulgent nonsense that creates some interesting characters but then wastes them in a tediously drawn out movie.

While watching "The Baytown Outlaws" I told a buddy that it seemed like the director was trying to make a Tarantino film without the obligatory extra 20 minutes of boring, self-indulgent dialogue.

reply

That dialogue is what makes his films better. This guy just did not have the chops to do that. this was a poor man's tarantino film. Totally copying of style with the ability to make it great. Tarantino should get a %

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.
