How Close is this to the actual story

Certain parts seem a little Hollywood near the end. For instance, did the convict turn out to be the girl's dad in the book? Did Pip even end up with the girl? I remember it different from having to read it in high school but could have it mixed up with another book

*All they make are unwatchable movies from unreadable books.

It follows the book at least as well as the classic John Mills version. Many of the lines are lifted word for word. As for the plotline question you asked, the answer is yes, and it does follow the book on this.
