She really set her kid up for failure with that name..

reply

Thought you were gonna say she named her kid "Kewpon."

The day is coming, I'm sure.

Is naming your kid Tequila really any different than naming them Brandy? There were plenty of white girls named Brandy after the song became popular in the 1970s. Naming your kid after booze is tacky no matter what your race is.

I knew a girl named Ginny because her dad was drunk on gin the night she was born. He told us himself that is why he named her that. So sweet - not. My daughter had a boy in her class named chianti, like the wine. Last week I volunteered at my son's school and met a boy named Q (yep, just Q) and another boy named Question. I SO wanted to ask him if his middle name was Mark, but I didn't!

Brandy and Ginny are actual names though. When I hear those names I don't immediately associate them with alcohol. Only ghetto trash would name their child Tequila.

Apparently she's not the only one. I saw the DirecTV episode of Undercover Boss and there was an employee whose name was Tequilah (I think that's how she spelled it).

Tequila is really no trashier than Brandy. The Brandys may have been named after the song, but brandy is still an alcoholic beverage.

reply

The name Brandy has been around longer than the song - same with the name Sherry.

reply

Sherry was around before the song because it was a nickname for Sharon, which had been popular since the 1940's. But the name Brandy was virtually unheard of until the song came out.

reply

The name Brandy originated before the song. About a decade before to be exact.

Brandy is short for Brandine. It's nothing to do with alcohol.

On the public bus last year, I was sitting near a one-year old girl named Champagne.

I've seen and heard worse names.
