Don't understand their reasoning.

I coupon some myself but not to the extreme that these people do. I don't understand rest and the reasoning of some of these people. They talk about how they've saved over X amount of dollars and are able to put that towards buying X. Or when those people say that they need to save X dollars to be able to afford X. Most of the time these people buy stuff they don't need or can't use within a reasonable amount of time. I look at it more at if I didn't coupon I would spend X this month of groceries but since I do coupon I only spent X on groceries I will be using this month and that's my savings.

Couldn't agree more. I just watched some woman buy 140 packets of noodles, 150 sports drinks, and a few dozen rolls of toilet paper. Her reasoning was that she needed to save at least $370 to pay a medical bill that was past due. Her total before coupons came to over $600 and she ended up paying just under $100. So in her mind, she "saved" over $500, but in reality, she spent more than half of that $100 on food she didn't even need. I'm glad they're not in charge of my finances if that's their idea of saving money. Coupons for toilet paper, dishsoap, or laundry soap are great because those are things we all use, but most of the food coupons are for processed crap.

I've seen a couple episodes where they use it towards charities which is pretty impressive to me, at least the concept of donating time if you can't afford large scale donations. But overall i tend to agree, and most of the coupons are for processed crap. Or the people who, say, buy hundreds of dollars of cat food at a SUPER LOW PRICE but...don't have a cat. Imo that truly renders it all pointless!

I would love to see just one episode of someone who does Extreme Couponing, but that DOESN'T have a huge stock pile of crap they'll never use.

My mom used to cut coupons she didn't use and have us look for the items in the store and leave them on top of them. A customer saw me doing it and asked for the coupons b/c she would use them. She didn't even know what they were for but we did see her getting those items. My mom was a little mad at me b/c she did that so that we keep ourselves busy and out of trouble while she shopped.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
