Foodstamp Total?

The episode I just watched was about a lady, Erin, in Connecticut who was saving to put an addition on her home. On the register, it showed a line for "foodstamp total" above the real total. It did not mention if she was using foodstamps.

Does anyone know what this means?

I remember this lady. She had a niece living with her and (being a foster child) she was eligible for food stamps.

That shows on all registers in some stores. It's just a courtesy to the customer.

I know this is old, but I will add to it. The FS total is the total minus non-food items and tax. The actual total may be more or the same if there is a sales tax or non-food items.
