If they don't get married...

Well then what? I have only seen a few episdoes, yet those indicated that if a female was not married by 21/22 then she was "on the shelf". So what exactly does that entail? Surely at some point, she is done raising her younger siblings, so what does such a woman do with her life?

Tired--funny! :) To me this show is one of those things I sort of hate myself for watching, and yet I can't seem to stop. On the show they just make it seem so dramatic, and I picture these poor women stuck in a life of solitude continually cleaning their parents' trailer-yikes! Sort of like the Irish woman they showed who was divorced, and they said no one remarries in their society, so she was to be alone forever-sad.

That is good to hear. For some reason (and I may have just heard wrong), I thought they had said that the divorcee was not allowed to re-marry in that society. I found that sad, as it seemed she had divorced when her husband became an alcoholic and basically abandoned the family--she seemed lovely (at least on the show)-so it was sad to think of her having to be alone forever-though, if it is as you say, then hopefully, she at least has a chance to find someone else to share her life with.

Yrs after your post here, watching some get-together on TLC: && they're showing some wedding, where this big-@55 blonde cousin of some girl (the bride, iirc) that's threatening them.. I don't understand WTH these girls are thinking, wanting to fight each other (there's Police for that, lol); ugh, anyway, dafuq was I going to say..

Err, yeah, one of the moms/sisters said in this interview, how the girls are "virgins" (all gipsy girls, apparently?) prior to and before marriage - which seemed a little far-fetched, but interesting. xD

P.S.
This looks like the "fight" link:

Edit: Oh and what was Dumbo thinking, attacking Mellie - who's twice smaller than her.. Seemed hardly fair. :$
