Where do they get that kind of money

It's no secret the gypsy community is filled with con artists and thieves. One of the main reasons travelers "travel" constantly is so they don't have a fixed address for police to show up and arrest them.

Yeah, unfortunately I have to agree with everyone else. I really do think a lot of the parents are actually criminals. That's why we don't even see half of them.

I asked this question before - about the money - but apparently it got deleted. People like to try and cover it up, I guess.

I think it is safe to say that very few, if any, of them are on welfare. They seem pretty keen not to have government interfere with their lives and having to supply a fixed address and other info to get welfare doesn't strike me as something they would do.

Also, I am going to offer an opposing theory to how they afford what they do. Look at what they actually own. The live in caravans and travel, not needing to pay a mortgage or rent. They don't have many belongings but they take pride in what they do have, which is why what they do spend their money on is extravagant. Plus, kids don't tend to stay in school which both saves money and supplies workers to make more money. I have seen other ethnic groups (including ones in North America) who have similar views on money and wealth. I am sure there are some scammers and thieves but it doesn't mean they all are. Plus, from what I've seen on the show there is probably a little bit of a Catch 22 going on in how Travellers are viewed by the public and how they in turn treat non-travellers.

I find Thelma's attitude is a good balance. She sees the value in their culture without completely condoning everything she sees.

Traveler or Gypsy's are nothing more then con-men and thieves. They prey on the elderly and those who don't know any better, It's pathetic a tv show glorifies these scum bags. Irish travelers are pathetic wastes of life and a disgrace to the Irish.

From the episodes I have seen, it looks like a lot of the men also do landscaping work which is usually paid in cash, so the money goes a long way.

It is up to the government to crack down on these thieves, who are only hurting the middle class people.
It would be a very different story if these Gypsies crossed the aristocracy.
