liked the show, not the ending

I recently rewatched all the episodes of Longmire via streaming. Just as I did originally I fully enjoyed the series.
But I take exception to a number of things in the wrap up.
While I could buy Walt's retiring as Sheriff it is inconceivable to me that Cady would be his successor in the job. Vic, Ferg and even Zach seem much more suitable to the job.

And while it was OK that Walt and Vic finally hooked up it didn't seem appropriate that she'd be on the porch happily waving him goodbye as he heads out to find the lost treasure.

When a series is this good and then stumbles across the finish line it does (IMHO) take something away from the total.

I felt much the same way as you. I just finished streaming it for the first time this morning. I bought Walt's retiring. I mean, all the bad guys were wrapped up and taken care of.

Cady? Sheriff? Nope! I mean, the Native Americans seemed to despise her, so I am sure they would just love her now in charge of the law.

Walt and Vic hooking up? There was just something off about it. Like, I get they really cared about each other, but them knocking boots was just awkward. I like your metaphor about stumbling across the finish line (like Vic in her race).
