STOPPED Watching Season 1, Episode 2

When the sheriff's daughter is revealed to be sleeping with sherrif's rival deputy I suddenly felt MANIPULATED by the show, the characters began to ring hollow and the atmosphere and 'cowboy noir' touches that pleased me were wearing thin. Too much plot, not enough character. At this early point the show 'jumped the shark' for me. Of course, fans will howl at 'all I missed' but no thanks.

What ? Because she wasn't married? You got to be married or they won't have an affair with you, it's called badge bunnies

reply

I doubt that is the OPs reason. I suspect poetcomic felt that the setup was trite, designed only to provide a point of conflict between Walt and his deputy.

reply

Trite is RIGHT. Thanks for understanding. The shows binge-watchers will come down on me like a ton of bricks

but isn't that what you wanted anyway???

reply

Bingo, Ripley! It's an attention getting post.

To the OP: you've missed some good writing, especially since they took the show to Netflix! I think Cady has turned out to be one of the best characters.

Hardly jumping the shark, you might need to go look up what that actually means. And the situation is entirely plausible, two single people who see each other often due to their relationships with Walt find themselves attracted to one another.

reply

Definitely not coming down on you. I've stopped watching other shows for worse offenses and menial nothings. I am very much enjoying this show five seasons in. Hurry back now if you find yourself bored.

reply

I stopped reading your post at the title.

reply

Well, thank you for sharing. Next?

reply

I don't think you gave the show a chance because the reality is that it is HUGE on character development. As it turns out the Branch/Cady relationship was not such a big thing in the Branch/Walt relationship.

In my experience "jumped the shark" gets used far too often on IMDb and usually by those who do not really understand what the expression means.

All that happened here is that you did not like the show. It happens.

@ poetcomic1

So you felt the need to bitch about a show that you stopped watching after the 2nd episode, even though the show is now 5 years old and heading into it's 6th season?

What are you gonna complain about next? Some other show you haven't seen?

Since you didn't watch the show, you have no clue of what you're speaking of. The relationship was not a major plot-point and was actually short-lived. There is nothing implausible about it either. You have 2 young, attractive people that live in a very small town and have multiple connections to each other, so meeting and dating is perfectly natural.

Maybe you should take your head out of your ass and learn what "jump the shark" actually means. Until then, stop posting moronic comments about a show you don't watch.

I just started watching. I'd heard from so many how good it was but I avoided it. My husband loves Westerns like Lonesome Dove and Open Range (which he watches every time they come on TV) and I just felt like I didn't want to watch another "western". One friend said they only watch one episode a week because they don't want it to be over. I decided to give it a chance. I don't personally feel like two episodes are enough to judge if something is good or not.

What I find interesting, here is a show that is green-lighted for its SIXTH season - so though it's not YOUR taste, obviously there are enough people who do like it for Netflix to continue production of it. I was drawn in almost immediately. I look forward to seeing how the characters develop. There are plenty enough other shows on a multitude of outlets, including network and cable TV as well as subscription companies like Netflix. I hope you find something that tics all the boxes for you.

Desperate Housewives ran 8 seasons. I have never considered longevity proof of anything. X FILES ran 10 seasons and I always found it excruciating to watch. As you say its personal taste.

reply

True. Saying a TV show is awesome because it ran for X number of seasons is not proof.

I'm at the end of Longmire Season 3, but I'm going to be honest, it's been difficult to get this far. I'm thinking of stopping after the episodes with Branch are done. His character is interesting to me, and his story ideally should've lasted the length of the series.

Something about the show as a whole doesn't gel for me. I can't put my finger on why at this point. One reason could be I developed an intense dislike of Vic very early on, but that's not the only reason. Another could be a steady diet of British procedurals spoiled me because they really do it best. Maybe I'll figure out why one day.
